The Late Bloomer

How is it possible that a film with a cast as great as this one has could be so terrible? Kevin Pollak is one of my favorite actors. He should stick to acting as his directing skills suck.

Reminiscent of early 2000's sex comedies (think American Pie meets The 40 Year-Old Virgin), but bolstered from a unique twist on the genre and the fact that it's based on a true story. The supporting cast is great and really do a lot to elevate the material. Unfortunately the screenplay kind of falls apart towards the end and the low budget really stands out in a few places.

An odd comedy which uncomfortably straddles raunch and low-key sitcom is never really successful as either, though a strong cast helps things immeasurably (a climactic scene between the two Simmons's really hits home).
