Most bad movies are just bad movies, but some have the unholy power to force iconic screen legends into retirement. This is one such movie.

Forced Connery into retirement and for that alone, it is a horrible film. But it is actually a horrible film. Once again Alan Moore's source material is raped and Fox produces a brain dead film out of awesome source material.

A huge disappointment. The comic series it was based on was top notch, and it was sad to see that great story get butchered so badly in its translation to film. In some ways, we're lucky that the second installment of the comic is a "War of the Worlds" story and with the recent blockbuster on that, we won't be subjected to another horrible League adaptation. Read the comics instead!

LXG had the potential to be decent considering the quality of the source material. But it's absolutely awful. The story telling, visuals, editing, script and set designs are all terrible. But the ultimate sin is that it led the legend that is Sean Connery to retirement. His opening scene is great, that scene alone is one of my favourite Sean Connery moments. But why the hell did he agree to be in this monstrosity? LXG is one of the biggest wastes of cinematic potential I can recall. Terrible.

Like 2001's apes musing over the Monolith, execs mull over Alan Moore's carefully wrought, insanely fun comic & decide? Gut it 4 a "market-tested audience"! So Tom Sawyer is unnecessarily shoehorned in since H'wood believes we r unable 2 enjoy a film w/out an American lead (the Bond, Potter & LOTR franchises apparently being small exceptions). They also neuter several characters& glob on forced action scenes, gadgets, & the usual tropes 2 "play it safe". Is it any wonder this topples over?

Not really as bad as I had heard it was, though I haven't read the original series. It certainly claims less stupid one-liners than most other Hollywood action shlock. A fun romp in the vein of Stephen Sommers movies.

uncohesive paper-thin plot that would put scooby-doo episodes to shame, check. rag-tag band of nobodies accompanying a tired old star, check. 3 minutes of character building/storytelling followed by 30 minutes of mindless action, check. stupid dialogue and archaic cheesy lines delivered between action takes, check. Her majesty should rescind Connery's knighthood for taking part in this film.

I would highly recommend people to seek out the graphic novels (Moore's mashup satire of PG Wodehouse and HP Lovecraft in one of the intervening chapters is maybe the single best concise thing he's done imo), but yeah this film is so fucking bad Connery retired from acting. They basically rebooted the concept for the Penny Dreadful series, which while it had its flaws was far superior to this.

LGX is not nearly as bad as it could have been. In fact, it has some pretty fun aspects to it. Granted its script is horrendous, spotted with shitty dialogue and strange interactions, it's not all bad. Sean Connery isn't as horrible as his reaction to the movie would make you believe, and its characters can be fun at times. Not a total loss.

The best (worst?) part is the car chase through the nonexistant streets of Venice. Also, it appears that no one involved with the movie has ever opened any of the books they referenced - for example, Dorian Gray is NOT a brunette, nor does he inexplicably die from looking at his own portrait.

The plot was hokey and a lot of the acting overblown (we know where some of these guys get their dietary fiber; it's from chewing scenery!), but the fact that Hyde was almost always a hand-built costume and not CGI in his fully-transformed incarnation deserves some respect! The whole thing's eye candy, great for taking a "brain break" on a lazy afternoon.

This movie seems to be universally panned. That is unfair. There may be worse films in the universe (AVP comes to mind). I actually liked the concept of this film better than most of the flick. I think it could have been a whole lot better. Maybe a few years frm now, someone will remake this movie and do it justice; they certainly can't make it much worse.

The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen is a bad movie. It's incredibly dull, despite trying to be filled with a lot of action. It's all meaningless and boring. It takes itself too seriously to be able to have much fun with it, but it's not good enough to enjoy that way. The characters are flat, the acting is poor, the writing will, at times, make you cringe, and the plot is all over the place and often lacks even the most basic of logic. You have no reason to watch this movie.

Woeful adventure/action yarn has a terrific first scene with Connery and Hemmings, and establishes itself as an eccentric "caper movie" of sorts, before it becomes bogged down in numbing action, nonsensical plot twists, and paper thin characterisations. Gets by barely at times purely on the strength of Connery's effortless displays of charisma, though it is disheartening that this may turn out to be his cinematic swan song.
