Apparently this was a script that was used for quite a few pictures in several different genres and none of them were any good. And Lew Ayres's The Leathernecks Have Landed (1936) shows why. The writing just a mess. There are some fun to be had under all that nonsense, but the fact nobody properly got that working shows that this script should have been laid to rest already by The Leathernecks.
