I too am a drunken master. Except instead of the art of kung fu I practice the art of being depressed and lonely. It's really taking a toll on family and work life actually. I should probably call my sponser.

The story is featherweight, but the fight scenes are extremely impressive and it's actually a very funny light comedy despite its focus on kung-fu. Chan has boatloads of charisma; his skills as a physical comedian set him apart from any other martial artist I've watched.

Absolutely amazing fight sequences and stunts with some real charming scenes thrown in there, but seriously who gives a damn about those? This is some of the most spectacular and fastest martial arts choreography ever filmed, and the unique drunken boxing is captured with total grace. Chan's defining performance.

One of the best kung-fu movies around. It's got an actual (if ridiculous) story, a real sense of humour and some of the most incredible fight scenes I've ever seen. I didn't even mind that I was watching a dubbed version.

Fun but really silly. It works when the plot is relatively light as well, blending humor with fights, but suffers when things get serious towards the end.

Quite enjoyed the period setting in this one. Vague and incoherent it may be, but the action is jaw dropping just as the cover promised. When he plays for laughs I'm still cringy about it, and that's somewhat muted in this outing.

I just don't understand a universe in which people enjoyed this. Jackie at his least charming. I rarely feel more alien from the human species than when I see a predicted rating of 78 for this. What I *would* enjoy, however, is if there came a sequel, in which he'd joined AA & become an extremely self-righteous evangelical bornagain with a prim pentacostal wife who talks to serpents in tongues and used his martial arts to threaten people into going to church. There was a lot of missed potential.

Got 40 minutes in with no discernable story of any kind. Fighting was good but barely any. Seems like Chan doesn't like fighting on screen but does like telling stories, unfortunately he is shit at telling stories but a very good fighter.

Not sure if this was a rewatch or not; I know I saw at least the original DRUNKEN MASTER, a number of the POLICE STORY movies, and maybe some others, as a kid. Anyway: I can't say most of the humor works for me, but hoooly shit is the fight choreography absolutely gorgeous-- much less so some of the earlier scenes, but they're all impressive.

The reason for the famed "Hatchet Craze of '94." Anita Mui channels here best Lucille Ball and Jackie Chan his best Buster Keaton in a film that is a blast from start to finish. Even when fists aren't flying, the physical comedy is perfect. Enough has been said about the last 20 minutes, but it may be an unrivaled series of one-on-one fight choreography.

Probably considered Jackie's best movie. It's definitely one of my favorites. His fights are amazingly choreographed and the story is decent too. As always, Jackie makes his fights full of humor and fun. The stunts and acrobatics are very good, even if not up to some of his movies in the 1980's when he was truly in his prime, but this is a better movie.

It takes a while to get going, but once you're past the first 30 minutes this becomes pure, dumb entertainment with charmingly broad (if somewhat insensitive) comedy and insane action (by which I mean they must literally have found some insane people to do the stupid shit they do here). The final 20 minutes is among the best martial art action sequences period.

A few scenes drag quite a bit, and some of the humor really falls flat (perhaps something lost in translation?) but it's worth it overall, as the fight scenes just get better and better as the movie goes on.

The fights are amazing; the final sequence at the steel mill is completely fucking insane. You have to see it. And, while the story is stupid and the villains absurd (and not in a fun way), there's still enjoyable elements to the non-fighting scenes, such as the refreshingly sympathetic and non-evil step-mother (she's a real brassy, tough broad, I liked that character quite a bit), and...OK maybe that's it. But those fights! Also Andy Lau in a weird cameo that I kept expecting to pay off somehow

If you were to make a list of the top 10 fight scenes ever, it wouldn't be much of an exaggeration to say half of that list would be made up of scenes from this movie! Chan is pretty much at his physical and creative peak in this movie, and it shows. Aside from the amazing fights and stunts, this is also a really charming movie in its own right. In particular the late Anita Mui is hilarious throughout.

Even if slapstick comedy and really dumb dialog isn't your thing this movie delivers in choreography and a top notch turn of the century Chinese set. The stuntwork is probably the best you'll ever see in a period Kung Fu piece because nearly every bit of it was done physically with minimal wirework. This is once again Jackie Chan at his best..maybe not as many gonzo crazy stunts as Police Story but still very entertaining.

Maintains a good balance between comedy and expertly choreographed martial arts action. Jackie Chan is one of the most likable guys to ever work in movies, and here he shines as a charismatic drunken boxer with a sharp tongue and a penchant for causing trouble. The plot is a total throwaway, but you'll be too entertained to notice.

There's not much legend to speak of and the remake aspect of it seems like just another chance to use the drunken boxing style in a different context. But they use that chance EXTREMELY well; some of the moves were so crazy I had to laugh. Off-the-wall stunts. This is the sort of movie that reminds you that Jackie Chan is a living kung-fu acting legend.

Compared to Jackie's more recent Americanized movies (which seem to do quite well) this picture has four times the action. This guy can't walk across the screen without getting in a fight. A few laughs, a great mother character, lots of crazy fire stunts, some sad family interaction, loads of silliness. Pretty much what one expects of this master entertainer.
