The Legend of Sleepy Hollow

A Halloween staple growing up, and it still holds up today. The climactic Headless Horseman encounter is pretty darn awesome. Bram Bones is the proto-Gaston.

Beautiful language in the narration (undoubtedly W. Irving's) and cute chase scene, and I can see why this used to scare children. From a modern perspective, though, I'd say the scariest thing about it is the degree of its unabashed sexism. The characterization of females here is insulting even by old Disney standards.

Until the last quarter, the movie was more than boring.

This one scared me as a child!

Maybe Disney's best? Great songs, great animation, fantastic vibe, even funny at times. And they managed to do this all with no other voices than the narrator and backup singers.

The actual Headless Horseman part is up there with the best Disney output.

A little uneven, but it has pretty good animation and the second half is well worth it.

Good-Great animation, witty writing, good narration and all other elements of strong story telling blended well that make it work. Had fun. Few cheap stunts. But the last stretch saved it all.

Meh. Alright. Glad it was so short. Can't get behind a hero/victim that I kinda wanted to see get killed.

Always unsettled me as a youngster. The image of the headless horseman galloping over the bridge has never left me.

The Legend of Sleepy Hollow brings Washington Irving's classic short story of same title to life with the great animation of Disney. For younger children the language used in the story may be too archaic for them to enjoy. Disney did a wonderful job of making it accessible to younger viewers, while not making it too childish. This is a great film for anyone who likes the story of the headless horseman, or enjoys classic American literature.
