So... what happened here? The breezy, exciting fun of the first movie has been replaced with tedious scenes of marital discord, goofy kid hijinks, and a plot so by-the-numbers you could set your watch by it. A disappointing snoozer.

Does what bad sequels do best: completely forget what made the characters in the first movie great. Does what bad action movies do best: throw a freaking kid into it, probably so young people can 'relate' to it. Plus, it's poorly choreographed, shot and staged; maybe this is why Campbell has never directed a sequel to his Bond films?... My wife still thinks this is the worst movie we've seen together, and we've seen 'Godsend'.

A relentlessly mediocre and uninspired film that is only passably entertaining. It begins with a great action scene, but it goes downhill from there.

So we still have lots of good handmade action, humor , love and romance, and there is this vexatious kiddie-problem. No, not Adrian Alonso's performance, but the fact that this movie is rated PG - which means the gorgeous Catherine Zeta-Jones is allowed to look beautiful but not to be really sexy, and - even worse - it means there is not more than three drops of blood on the screen, ever. Including the swordfights.

There are a few solid scenes scattered throughout this film but what's in-between those scenes is middling to bad. It's almost as if they forgot what made the first film good.

Sequel finds Banderas and Zeta-Jones in good form, and Campbell's skills as action director unimpeachable, but this gets bogged down in over complicated plotting - the formal breakdown of Mr & Mrs Zorro's marriage is surprisingly detailed, meaning the main action plot takes too long to get going; the more action filled second half is still incapable of bypassing a certain inertia - with surprisingly little done with its "Son of Zorro" subplot. The overall good spirits keep it watchable.

I hate this movie so much that after watching it, I stood up in the movie theater and screamed at the people that applauded. I actually screamed at them. I didn't think I would ever do such a thing, but that was before I saw this.

Anything Catherine Zeta-Jones does is a masterpiece, Antonio Banderas delivers the charismatic rebel beautifully, the chemistry is amazing. It is essentially a romantic movie with cool action and funky one-liners. Yet this made me wanna learn Spanish

The adventures of Zorro, all rolled in cheese and/or sugar (depending on the requirements of each scene). It's so unremarkable as a movie, that it won't leave much of a long lasting impression. In this case, that's a good thing.

After helping make California the 31st state in America, Zorro will have to live up to the promise he made to his wife Elena: to give up his secret identity and live a normal life as Alejandro de la Vega. His doubt seems to be driving the two apart. At the same time, new plans are being hatched by the same culprits who wanted to keep California out of the US. They threaten to unleash an age-old danger that could change the course of history forever. Only Zorro can stop them.

The Legend of Zorro frustratingly ignores what made it's predecessor enjoyable. And I was completely confused when I realised Martin Campbell had returned to Direct. There's no excuse as to why this film didn't work. Whereas the story telling of the first film flowed perfectly, the pacing is all over the place here. It lacks the star quality that Anthony Hopkins brought first time round and the weakly ushered in kid is annoying. The films saving grace is Antonio Banderas & Catherine Zeta-Jones.

It's a little bloated and the first act is sluggish, the villain's plot is ridiculous, and there's a fucking little kid sidekick for Zorro, which is always, ALWAYS horrible. That said, it's still a nicely shot, lighthearted, mildly amusing and inoffensive little swashbuckler with some fun stunts and action scenes - just not as good as the previous film. And Catherine Zeta-Jones' Spanish accent makes her hot.

There is fun to be had with this late sequel. However it is severely let down by a lack of interest from most of the cast. Some unnecessary leaning on CGI effects leading to a lack of real stunts. Some forced comedy which only lands about half the time. It is only redeemed by Antonio Banderas' continuing efforts as the lead.

This is a worthy sequel to Mask of Zorro. While it is not the best work of Banderas, it is enjoyable, popcorn munching fare. Sure, some of the science is sketchy but the Illuminati rears it's ugly head, and that's always an intersting plot point. The chemistry between Zeta-Jones and Banderas isn't quite as electric here, probably due to the addition of the "precocious son"
