The Lemon Drop Kid

It was the only classic film in the library I hadn't seen.

Bob Hope is such a chiseler in this film. He'd sell out his own grandmother. In fact, I think he does. He's continually painted as a good-hearted guy, but repeatedly makes bad-hearted decisions. He's rail-roaded into doing the right thing at the end, but that doesn't make him an endearing character. Though I still found him and the movie funny it was on the edge of what I could appreciate.

It's not as funny or entertaining as I thought it would be but it passed the time okay. I could see myself watching it again at some point but it won't be put into regular Christmas viewing rotation.

It's Bob Hope - as zany as it gets!

Bob Hope '51 version is less sappy than Lee Tracy's '34's, and therefore is the more enjoyable picture, even if Hope goes off too far the other direction making it incredibly silly.
