This is not a conspiracy! This is the plain truth and stuff is learned in design and industry schools! Don't let the headline fool you - this is a very good educational film that shows how so many of us follow the foolish pattern of the consumption trend that made so many generations fixated with buying things they don't need with money they don't have, just to keep the growth going

I think we're in the age of the wilfully ignorant & will ride that out as long as possible & then some. Until China says 'we are out of rare minerals' and iphones become unaffordable/ impossible to be manufactured, where is the driver for the most profitable company in history to stop making what it makes? The mechanism is already in full flight, we're just riding the wave now for better or for worse. Enjoy the latest version of whatever device you own, one day it will be the apex.

Mildly interesting doc that works as an introduction to planned obsolescence. Would have appreciated it to go into more detail but it does a good job of giving a quick overview of the subject (from both the angle of the producers and the consumers), and makes you think about other products and aspects of life where this might be happening.

Great documentary explaining the concept of planned obsolesce. Right on the mark. Watch this in conjunction with Affluenza (1997) and you have everything you need to know about how consumerism works. Make one about 'technological unemployment' and then we'll have the trifecta of why our economy and environment are going down the drain. The paradigm needs to shift away this throw-away five-planet-lifestyle. And it needs to start with the manufacturer's, NOT the consumers.
