The general contempt for men is so repetitive (the only good males are gay, asexual artists or Karl Marx- that's not a joke) I suspected a woman wrote this & I was right. Far Lefties may enjoy the bashing, but does the mystery work? I don't see how. Neither of the big reveals is satisfying or understandable. Fiction should offer more explanation for becoming a hyper-violent serial killer than a bad marriage/childhood. The film also has the killer enjoy a final round of applause b/c its feminist?

It's been a long time since I came out the cinema and would quite happily have bought a ticket for the next showing

Fairly enjoyable bit of Ripper-iness with some good performances. The resolution is somewhat telegraphed though, and the weird ending after the ending to bring the "show within the show" full circle jarred a bit and didn't really need to be there. If anything, made me fairly intrigued to read the book it's based on.

I liked the ending, though be it due to a form of poetic justice or the mere fact that the film was over is up for debate. The Limehouse Golem is a moderately fun romp, ruined by over-zealous editing. Musical numbers, gore, filters galore; the film ends up all over the place in regards to tone, style and pacing. Nighy and Cooke deliver strong performances, especially when they share the screen. Booth's a dead ringer for Freddie Mercury. Otherwise a mediocre film, that is cringeworthy at points.

SPOILER: A cross between "Oliver!" and "Jack the Ripper" ... what happens if a woman in Victorian England wants notoriety, when men wouldn't even suspect a women of such crimes? As the on-line discussions show, this is a film that (if you want) opens up a lot of questions as to the real perpetrator, their motives, etc ... but as this is fictitious, its everyones personal take on what they see, which makes things more interesting. Great cast, and Bill Nighys performance was tiredness personified

Honestly, the characters in this are so richly designed, so interestingly well-thought-out, and I was so excited at the diversity and the like, complexity of all the characters on the screen, and yet the film remained unconquerably mediocre. Part of it was very dark setting and often confusing editing and shooting, but the general plot, whilst it was decent enough, I think lacked a sense of urgency throughout. Decent, all through, but... Not GOOD, and certainly not great.

Nice period details, some good acting here and there, lots of overcomplicated scenes and plot layers. Read the book.

Olivia Cooke was marvelous. Bill Nighy was very good. Sam Reid was charismatic. The story is very dark and sometimes gruesome but performances were strong and effective. The accents of the supporting cast were occasionally challenging. The story is full of mystery, suspense and surprise. Music was very good.

Overwrought, overblown, overrated. Why the fuck were people laughing at those comedy songs? It doesn't help that I can't stand Bill Nighy

Felt/looked more like a stretched episode of a BBC murder mystery TV-series than an actual film; Limehouse Golem could've been preceeded and succeeded by a dozen 'films' equally well-crafted but devoid of original ideas and cinematic drive.
