Young Tina lives with her mother and stepfather on a wildlife reserve in Kenya. While her stepfather believes this is a wonderful environment for her to grow up in, her mother becomes increasingly concerned by her behaviour. I can see how the film came from a novel about a very literal nature vs nurture debate, but the movie makes itself a didactic lecture about how divorce is wrong and if only everyone stayed married, our children wouldn't become unholy "natives" (which certainly isn't code for anything else). The film censorship policies beat this into an ugly, ugly mess.
