The strangest movie I've seen Jodie Foster in (Which is no easy feat)

Bizarre 70's drama. I am not even sure what the point is. Foster is some sort of grownup teen and Martin Sheen is some pervert. Points for the acting and incredibly unsettling vibe. Loses points for ultra generic 70's score.

I remember this movie from my childhood and watched it again recently. The story was very compelling and I didn't remember how it ended. I was genuinely pissed at some of the characters and wondered why she didn't keep the door locked more often, especially after the first nosy neighbor barged in. Great camera-shots, period clothing, setting, and atmosphere. It is remarkable that Jodie's voice sounds the same at such a young age.

Strangely dark and cynical while still being light hearted. Though Martin Sheen is an effective creep the film simply wouldn't work without Jodie Foster. Normally I hate kids acting beyond their age but this strikes a unique balance. Recommended.

Extremely creepy and unusual. Foster and Sheen are great in this. I do agree with Foster that the nude scene was completely unnecessary. I liked how well the sense of loneliness and paranoia is conveyed in the film. The ending shot is chilling, but I did feel kind of unfulfilled because the ending left more questions than answers. Still, I really enjoyed this.

This offbeat film is one of the few I've ever seen that succeeded with that particular message, maybe because it's so low-key and doesn't take itself too seriously, nor does it draw any ironclad conclusions (consider it a quality version of Friends). Foster is tremendous in the lead role, and the chemistry between her and Jacoby is marvelous throughout. The only drawback is Sheen, who is a bit of a waxed-mustache villain, especially toward the end (he also nearly ruined The Dead Zone that way).

I've remember this movie since I was young. Kind of a haunting memory. Well, it wasn't quite as haunting watching years later, but it is suspenseful and young Jodie Foster carries the movie. Martin Sheen is believable as the creepy neighbor as well.

This was a strange little film. The direction was strange, the dialogue was strange, the performances were strange... It's a good thing, though, mostly. The film has such an unnerving, bizarre quality to it, which is cool, because I think atmosphere is a really underrated aspect of film. Jodie Foster is pretty impressive at her young age. I'm not sure I'd call it a good film, but it's an interesting one. I wasn't too keen on the ending, however.

This movie has an odd perspective to it: it seems to be trying to say something about personal freedom, or the way we treat children, but it's hard to pin down the message. The ending leaves a story still to be told, but certainly things aren't going to turn out very well for Foster. Is this meant to be a condemnation of certain hippie ideals? It doesn't feel that way, but that's what I get from it. Or maybe it's all just backstory for a creepy, unusual psychological thriller.

Jodie Foster is great in the lead role and Martin Sheen is very good in his creepiest role. The script is good and has some surprises. Overall I would recommend this thriller.

This picture is like the scene in Psycho where viewers root for the villainous Norman Bates to dispose of a car. For an entire film. It has a Hitchcockian feel via plot twists, crime scheming, and a confined setting. Jodie Foster's darkly funny heroine serves a precursor to Gone Girl & Promising Young Woman. And as a bonus Martin Sheen is a creepy badguy. The picture's well made--with a brief runtime, awesome script complications, and a funky 70's music score. The only misstep is a silly title!

Weird-ass movie with Jodie Foster as an orphan living alone, coming of age and behaving unrealistically mature, and Martin Sheen as a pedophile hamster-torturer. Nice showcase of acting talents, but the script is poor.

Jodie Foster was surely the greatest child actress of all time, and the thirteen year old is enormously likeable in this unusual little tale about freedom and independence. Sheen's character is perhaps too much of a caricature, but there are many fine scenes and the film is always interesting.

I would rather have never seen Jodie Foster naked especially at age 13.

This is the film that turned me into a Jodie Foster fan forever. At age 13 she totally carries this story of a young girl forced to lead her life alone because her father was terminally ill. I love her romance with charming crippled teen Scott Jacoby. Alexis Smith as the snobby landlady with creepy son Martin Sheen are both fun to watch. Atmospheric film with a great score that I try to watch every Hallowe'en.

This felt really TV-movie-ish, but I enjoyed most of it. I really felt for Rynn. A lot of people, no matter how old they get, still feel like kids inside--I know I do. Yet from the start we see that Rynn behaves like a grown woman. She has temerity beyond what most adults have. In general, she has chosen to be less social than she's expected to be because she doesn't want to deal with the issue and consequences of her own vulnerability. And I think that's pretty easy to identify with.

It felt like a mix between a filmed play and a Stephen King adaptation, which is weird, since it's neither. The performances are quite good, Foster especially but Sheen displays a lot of the wild energy he had in his early career (though they might as well have given the fucker horns and a tail for all the subtlety there is to the role as written).

Holy shit, passei 38 anos da minha vida sem saber nada sobre esse filme, só sabia que tinha um pedófilo na trama, mas achava que era um drama e tals e me deparo com um filme de horror sobre a infância do Norman Bates, hahaha. Coisa fina. DVD Obras-primas do cinema.

The moviemaker's exploitation of Jodie Foster's 14 years old nudity in the name of art was unnecessary aside from some shock value. A pedophile's dream. The plot was adequate. The acting performances were mediocre at best. Annoying music subtracted from it greatly. My biggest complaint is the extremely shabby way they ended it and the unrealistic way they handled the death of the hampster. Non-endings are never satisfying. It was briefly interesting, but not particularly worthwhile.

The whole film is so low budget and awkward it reeks of porn/exploitation. I don't think the director understands rhythm; the film's in a hurry for no reason at all and it suffers for that, ruining any suspense that the awful plot offers. Awful acting, too.

I know it's based on a book, but the director should have taken creative liberties in making it less gross. Well acted, but unnecessary.
