Both a simplistic and overly convoluted animated movie gets any mileage it has from the terrific English dub, but it can't overcome curiously ugly (and cheap-looking) animation, and a story which feels like an awkward cobbling together of too many disparate elements. Ultimately becomes tedious and long-winded in the caper-like third act.

Feels like two stories - the classic Little Prince" and a cookie cutter cliche-full Hollywood cartoon awkwardly mashed together. Had the classic tale (which was beautifully animated) been given the lions share of the running time it might have worked somewhat. Unfortunately that wasn't the case.

Great animation and characterization, feels a little disconnected at times but it mostly works. I could not get enough of the stop motion, wish there was more of that than the standard Hollywood stuff.

Could not agree more with the people who say there should have been more stop motion and less everything else. In bursts this is absolutely stunning and breathtaking. It comes very close to being a really beautiful, perfect thing. Unfortunately the framing story is a bit bland and disjointed, and it manages through its faults to bring you firmly back to earth after every time it fills you with awe and wonder.

This melted my frozen cynical heart. Although narratively somewhat jumbled, The Little Prince is an endearing, enchanting and engaging animation. The warm, unassuming optimism combined with the sharp social criticism and even satire reminded me, strangely enough, of Jacques Tati. This movie executes its themes not always in the most kid-friendly way, and the narrative structure is bound to be confusing for some kids, so I would say this is a movie about children moreso than a movie for children.

Its adorable and beautiful and then the last thirty minutes are a painfully modern film convenience to beef up the runtime and round out the admittedly decent frame story but feels way too much like little prince with a dose of Hook.

The narrative was a mess, but there was enough heart and stunning stop-motion animation to easily look past the film's flaw. I wouldn't imagine that kids would have the easiest time with this, but the message is so vital.

I don't think there will ever be a perfect adaptation of The Little Prince, because The Little Prince is already a perfect work in itself. The stop-motion scenes of this movie are great, at least, but an awful lot of the original story is cut out, the most emotional moments are incredibly mishandled, and the original story is "over" by the movie's halfway point, giving way to this "new" plot that just uses the original book as a plot device for its immediately predictable course.

I absolutely loved this. It takes some artistic liberties with the original story, but it pulled at my heartstrings and warmed my soul.

Unexpectedly terrible. Just the most inane "THE MAN is bad" and "childhood is magic" bullshit combined with an awed reverence for source material and a last act that played like terrible fan fiction.

I think this would have worked better as a straight adaptation of Antoine de Saint-Exupéry's novella. The CGI-narrative surrounding it in the film (occupying the majority of the film's runtime) is clearly done with care, but it feels superfluous and undermines the whimsy of the source material by turning its messages into sledgehammer arguments. The film is at its best when it lets the purity, imagination, and emotional power of the novella shine through unadulterated.

I'm only rating it this low because "The Little Prince" is full of what appear to be confusing, insane, or ambiguous metaphors that don't connect to reality in very meaningful ways. "You are responsible for what you've tamed." what the crap is that supposed to mean? But at it's center, taken as a children's fantasy movie, this movie seizes the imagination and fills me with wonder at the crazy magic of its world.

I've never read the book- the movie seems to waffle between the symbolic and reality and it interweaves them as if they're supposed to work fine together. I end up with too many questions, given that. The lessons of remembering to be a child and to interconnect with people come through clearly enough, but I can't help but feel a book I never read may have done it better, as this feels... a touch clunky.

The Little Prince deals with themes of mortality and responsibility (and to a lesser extent friendship) both competently and enjoyably, while preserving what made the book profound. A story within a story, realised by two different animation styles, makes the film engaging from the onset. Unfortunately, the direction is a little weak, haphazardly switching scenes and delivering a 3rd act that is messy. NB, the English voice acting delivers more emotion and range than its French counterpart.

The director was very successful, in the beginning of the movie to create a powerful emotional link with the audience, which gives it a great space to recreate the main telling of Saint-Exupery. But over time, it fails to keep the connection and child-story cliches seem to overthrow the emotional touch of the movie. Visually, this movie is a bit behind its era. Its special effects are weak and graphical renderings are inaccurate. The stop-motion parts are also deprived from a perfect sculpting.

More important than all of that, though, is the fact that those who do find this little animated film will discover a story that encourages its viewers to take a flight of fancy. It asks us to dream a little with it. To imagine. Not everything makes sense in its world, and I think that's by design. This is a movie that dares dip into the mind of childhood, where fantasy and reality may sometimes blur a bit. (pluggedin.com)

Nicely done, good animation, but the second half totally lost me. I just prefered what refered to the original book it seems (never read it, just guessing).

This was either really emotional or I was PMS-ing when I watched it.

While the narrative occasionally takes a backseat to the whimsical bells and whistles of the picture, 'The Little Prince's' emotional storytelling is totally infectious, and the greatly animated and diverse artwork will make sure both your heart and eyes are satisfied.

Very cute. Also, the stop motion animated sequences were wonderful although not to the same level as the Laika stuff, but what is?

The Little Prince (2015) is one of the most heartfelt of the big animation features of 2015. Could possibly have used a little more humor to give it color during it's slow parts, but it's emotional aspect hits home. Also liked how it blended animation styles. Nice way to separate the their world and the story world. Very enjoyable.

Half stunning retelling of the novel/half standard CGI framing device. Which half won out is hard to say but the execution was still great overall.

I really liked about half of this movie. The stop motion stuff was the highlight - the design was gorgeous. I think they probably should've just made it a short film with the actual The Little Prince story. The framing device doesn't work quite as well. There's some real structural and pacing problems, and it feels disjointed because of it. And I'm sure the people making it understood the film's internal logic, but I didn't all the time. Still, it was nice and sweet overall.

Eu faço parte do seleto grupo de pessoas que odeiam o livro do Exupery, mas esse filme o usa de uma forma tão bonita e contra a retentividade anal dos adultos, que não tem como não amar. TV aberta.

Nice adaptation. I liked that it wasn't just a very literal adaptation of the book but also had a story of its own. At times it was simplistic, but for a children's animation film I think it is acceptable and it has enough heart to make up for it. I did think the final act was a bit long and typical for Hollywood films. But overall I was pleasantly surprised.

The voice acting is magnificent, as is much of the execution. The fantasy of it all executes themes of materialism, dreams lost or forgotten well, but I fear that it becomes far too surreal and layered in places for comprehension for most children.

It looks very pretty, but the story, unfortunately, was so dull I mostly just looked forward to finishing it so I could say I had.
