The Lodgers

Well, that's one of the gothest movies that ever did goth. Offers little beyond an intense flowing-nightgowns-in-dewey-mist-and-old-shuttered-houses atmosphere, but it delivers that very well. Leaves a few too many stones unturned, and can't help shake the feeling that it's a prequel to a much better movie, but it does look very good.

Beautifully shot, but without much real substance. It relies too heavily on incest as something inherently revolting, and then becomes lazy about building up other creep factors, leaving the build-up relatively flat. The lullaby is great, though, and is used very well.

Great atmosphere unless like every living creature you need more than atmosphere when being told a story. The story itself is weird and confusing with a set of Gremlins rules in place that makes it uncomfortably obvious the writers are teasing incestuous undertones. It lends itself to pretty good imagery towards the end and ... well, atmosphere. You're gonna want to be in the mood for atmosphere.

Ridiculous and maddeningly repetitive. I regret buying the ticket.
