In a way they tried too many angles with this story with everything feeling half-finished once it's done. Be it the romance with Ann Rutherford. Hatred from his friends and locals. Character development was limited. Even the conclusion came too easy without the climax for such a story. While John Wayne's Republic Pictures films are better then his Lone Star output, he's not the star to carry a average production to greatness yet at this point.
