The Longest Ride

The Longest Ride refers to what the audience feels after having seen this borefest of a movie.

The movie earns its title in a bitterly ironic fashion. Take everything stupid about Nicholas Sparks and make it 142 minutes long. 142 fucking minutes of Nicholas Sparks. This movie got so boring that I felt sure it would end by revealing that the abjectly bland "human" characters in fact consisted of rice pudding and Ben Stein. Somehow, the actual ending turned out even worse than that.

It's too long and wouldn't have had any emotional punch had Ira not been in it (let's be honest, his love story is more compelling because he's old). Despite it being manipulative, I can't deny that there weren't moments that got me... even though I knew it was trying to play me hard. The ending was stupid, but this isn't the worst romantic movie I've ever seen. 45 places it in a "close but no cigar" type of category.

If you're a movie fan who's fantasized about Chaplin and Eastwood being in a movie together, I have some terrible, terrible news. The Longest Ride is salvaged slightly by the B-plot romance, which is actually possible to care about. The main story line, though, is pretty irritating; the best part is the Youtube video of Luke getting the shit kicked out of him by the bull.

Honestly, probably better than it had any right to be. Not GOOD, I'm not gonna say that, but, not a complete train-wreck by any means either. Alan Alda is the flick's MVP, which is either a good thing (because he's good in his role), a bad thing (because he's not the primary focus of the movie), or an expectation (because it's Alan fucking Alda). Bull riding is bullshit and if you like it you're a horrible person. That's fact. But if you like(d) this movie I can't really blame you. It's alright!

A contemptible movie thanks to an incredibly stupid and irredeemable final third, The Longest Ride is a film that thinks nothing of its audience except as a way to make money to finance the next terrible Nicholas Sparks adaptation. Hopefully people don't see The Longest Ride, a movie that destroyed any good it had by having one of the stupidest cinematic endings I've seen in years, and maybe ever.

Cute and clean romance. Perhaps a little too neat and tidy for my liking, and the plot mechanisms are a bit contrived. A modern day fairy tale. Great for mindless entertainment on a rainy night with the girls.

I went thinking Clint could have steered his progeny away from this 5th in a string of Spark's manipulative rom-coms, but no. Rowdy, or Dirty Harry this is not. Yeah, he's gotta be his own man, but... Clint did shine through in Luke's evaluation of modern art. The climactic bull ride in slo-mo is impressive, but would have been more so if they hadn't had to be so careful not to show the rider's face. The flash back sub-plot was the best part.

The Longest Ride delivers a smooth version of the Nicholas Sparks formula, for better or for worse.

This should have been the story of Ruth and Ira because they're the only characters worth watching.

Such a chick flick ;). But it feels so good to watch something like this every once in a while. There are a million of these out there, so I won't rank The Longest Ride that high, but it is absolutely alright to watch. 50/100.

Stupid ending, but enjoyable film.

In the 21st century, it'd be far more shocking--at least as far as Hollywood's concerned--for two loopy lovebirds to not sleep together. Now, that'd be quite the twist for a secular romance in the 2010s, wouldn't it? It'd be the Jackson Pollock of love affairs--a daring departure that might change the way we look at art and our world. The first couple acts of the movie, while not good by any means, are at least benignly watchable and contain many hot chicks in Texan apparel. It's in the end, though, when the movie abruptly becomes one of the stupidest I've ever seen, putting forth the exceedingly odd moral that you should befriend dying people because there's a good chance you'll inherent their shit and become a millionaire with no problems ever again.

What you'd expect from a Nicholas Sparks story. Cheesy romance movie hits some good notes but some of it is way too sappy

The Notebook'un yazarı Nicholas Sparks'ın çok satan romanından beyazperdeye uyarlanan Seninle Bir Ömür, nedense aşkı fazlasıyla saf haliyle anlamaya ve anlatmaya çalışıyor. Romanını okumadım ancak bu haliyle fazla uzun, ağır kalıyor. 5/10

Not bad for a sparks

Enjoyable watch. The two stories from the two couples that are interwoven into eachother are really cute. A few good emotional moments. However, the guyporn irritated me a bit. The ending was a bit cheesy and predictable. Do not expect a film that is too deep.

It's rare to see a narrative that is this unashamedly propped up by cliches. It's dumb, pandering, impossible to take seriously and the characters aren't relatable or even plausible. That said, it doesn't hide what it is and it has it's audience and that audience likes these films so fine. Does what it sets out to do, although what it set out to do was pretty terrible.

One of the best rom coms. Great story combining old and new

Scott Eastwood, flying under the radar for years, tries to break out as a leading man in this romantic drama, and they couldn't have found a prettier co-star in Britt Robertson who was great. Some of the flashback story with Oona Chaplin was captivating. Sappy & nostalgic at times, but mostly interesting. Some average performances. Good pacing and an entertaining message up until the end. Then it all goes bad with a stupid, cheesy, predictable, sappy and unconvincing ending.

I'm not complaining about the acting, but the story.... the story simply did not connect. Dull sentimental rodeo art combination.

very good movie

The Longest Ride is a generally likeable film and is definitely watchable. However, the movie doesn't explain some key points and is very generic. It will please its target audience as the relationships are very sweet and dreamy. Robertson puts on a great performance and saves the movie from a lower rating. I can't really moan about the running time because they kind of warned us by the title - if a film was a ride, this would be the longest and slowest one ever!

If you're in the mood - go for it. It's all there! Predictable romance, steamy guy, good kissing, city-girl meets country-boy, flashbacks, the wise old man and a happy ending where love conquers all! *Recommendable
