The Longest Yard is to The Shawshank Redemption what Over the Top is to Kramer Vs. Kramer. I prefer this to The Waterboy but I also prefer an onion sandwich to pea soup.

While this remake stays very closely to the original movie, it's still not as good for a couple reasons. Firstly, it just doesn't work quite as well in 2005. Secondly, and most important is that Adam Sandler as Crewe is such a poor choice, it's basically offensive, he has none of the swagger or charm that Burt did.

Not a bad remake, but even better as a Sandler vehicle. Definitely one of his better, crowd-pleasing movies, stocked with humor and football action. Chris Rock is forgettable though.

I didn't dislike it as much as I thought I would. I think it actually suffered from being a remake because the film felt like it was set within some boundaries of what was supposed to happen. So some things ended up feeling forced and unnatural. Other than that, it's as amusing as most Adam Sandler movies.

The original was good, but this version really sucked. Adam Sandler looks like a huge pussy standing next to real football players so I wasn't buying it. Go see the original.

Decent remake. One of my favorite Sandler movies mainly because he's got a funny and talented cast backing him up. A little over the top at times but definitely worth a watch.

People enjoy complaining that it's an unrealistic look at prison life...but why were people expecting anything else. It's a movie full of athletes, rappers and wrestlers (few who have shown any acting chops). It's funny at times and the football scenes are decent. It's nothing amazing but I always seem to watch it when it's on TV...such as the moment of writing this review.

He's good when he's not doing his classic "Adam Sandler in a comedy" character. Still funny, but the best laughs come from other characters, fits his stoic leader role better.

One of the better modern day remakes. Never strays far from the source material, in fact much of it is lifted almost verbatim from the original but it's better than the kind of mindless butchering we've come to expect from Hollywood studios revisiting old classics. Not even Sandler can fuck this up.

Adam Sandler can carry a movie, however he doesnt even try nor need to in this one and it creates a fun new dynamic for his films. Just as heavy in action and sports as comedy its refreshing to Sandler in something different.

While I do not particularly enjoy Sandler, or have any grasp at all on American Football, I simply can do nothing but endorse the amount of senseless and incredibly funny violence in this movie. At least it sets it somewhat apart from all those other sports movies. That being said, this is nothing new. It's not that funny really. I goddamn hate Chris Rock.

This remake was done in the wrong fashion. Yes, it is rightfully a comedy, but is should be been done more along the lines of Slap Shot (yeah, I know it's a different sport), but instead, this one was done as if it were a remake of The Replacements. Ugh!

Considering every movie from 2005 was a remake, this was ok. It stuck to the original pretty well, and added some other funny stuff. Also, great casting. 90% of the cast were real athletes. I could have done without Nelly, however.

Cookie cutter comedy remake, but a good job at doing so. Sandler is comical like usual, and a well-stacked cast helps him take this movie to the next level. Well done overall, a fun watch for most of the family.

DO NOT REMAKE THIS FILM. BURT REYNOLDS NAILED IT... Oh, too late.
Sandler delivers his normal "slap stick, dick joke" humor - if you can call it humor. This movie was a classic, if you want to see it you need to see the original.

Brainless, even for a Sandler flick. Michael Irvin ended up being a pretty decent actor, though. There were some really, really awful things in this movie, though. I mean, come on, a RODNEY KING joke? Who wrote this shit? And I hate Tracy Morgan with a passion now. Who decided he was funny and/or talented?

It almost didn't even seem like a comedy. It had some good drama elements. The inmates' can finally get their revenge against their abusive guards. It almost made me want to go to prison because they just seemed like a bunch of buddies. It had your typical Sandler comedy spots but I think it's too good to be considered your typical Sandler comedy.
