The Loves of Pharaoh

good sets, good costumes, but everything else is kind of luke warm. It could have been good, but not quite.

A great score (saw it performed live!) elevates an okay silent.

As grand a production Ernst Lubitsch ever handled! Super impressive sets and costumes! The acting from Emil Jannings was great too! However the rest did not live up to the massive production values this movie had. The story lacked some of those Lubitsch touches. I guess everything became too enormous for those little details. What was awesome was Paul Wegener, the guy most known for playing The Golem, having another bad-hair day looking like an African bordello queen straight out of the 70s!
