Emily Watson looks as good as ever, and puts in another fine performance. The film is quite well put together, but is more of a Mannerist piece of goldsmithery than a grand masterpiece.

Jeez, just terrible. Maybe even worse than the novel (which was bad enough). No understanding of the chess world at all (in either one).

a good romance film, but some bits (like the epilogue) were just too heart-warmingly silly.

Some nice architecture and set design. Everything else degenerates.
