A good example of Western physics's law of the Conservation of Gunslinging, stating the total gunslinging ability of an isolated frontier town remains constant--it is said to be conserved over time. Gunslinging ability can neither be created nor destroyed; rather, it is shared. Case in point, the Magnificent Seven have acquired between them so much gunslinging ability, that it lowers the ability of all those around them--namely their enemies, who can't seem to hit the broad side of a brothel.

Big, loud, dumb shallow popcorn flick that has Denzel playing the "Equalizer" and Chris Pratt playing well Chris Pratt. The movie was a collection of cliche and stereotypes which along with the fact that there was no back story to anyone kept me from really caring about any of the characters. The movie was mildly entertaining and kept things moving at a brisk pace so you don't really feel the long running time. Recommended viewing for a weekend of friends, pizza and beer.

Probably not an amazing movie nor is it the strongest western movie made, but The Magnificent Seven stands as a solid western on it's own merits. A few of the characters end up getting some development more than others and the characters are all just introduced on the spot basically, but it's still a fun action romp and Antoine Fuqua's talented directing and style are present again. Not great, but nowhere near bad.

At one point in the climactic bloodbath, I had assumed that every single person was dead. All of them. Turns out it was only most of them. There is plenty of violence to enjoy here, but for me the characters didn't work particularly well, perhaps lacking a bit of chemistry. It also felt a bit clean and "TV-movie"-ish. It's fun and a decent way to pass the time, but you should see the one with McQueen/Brynner et al. Or Seven Samurai. Watch Seven Samurai - it's great.

Surprisingly traditional. The biggest surprise is that they didn't have the guts to make a woman one of the seven magnificent gunmen, now that they already have Denzel, a Mexican, an Asian and a Native American onboard.

The Magnificent Seven is the type of movie you watch to get through a couple of rainy hours on a weekend. Does it deliver anything that will make you remember it even a couple of hours later? Not really, except for a racially diverse cast. But beyond that? It's an unnecessary but not altogether unenjoyable re-remake that isn't really ever boring, even if it's also only intermittently entertaining.

If The Magnificent Seven (1960) is Seven Samurai for Americans, this movie must be for dumb Americans. When it tried to do comedy it was straight-up embarrassing. The cheesy, trashy vibe the whole thing had was unappealing. The dialogue was crap, and despite some talent in the cast, none of the performances were good. The main action sequence was decent, but nothing we haven't seen before. It's lucky the film looks beautiful, because that's about the only thing it has going for it.

By no means a classic of the genre, it is however pretty entertaining with a great cast. Developmentally its lacking, but the original wasn't exactly a textbook on getting to know your characters. Its sharp and the lack of overwhelming CGI is nice. Its a bit cheese-ball in a few places but forgivable.

It's a movie that has racially diverse characters, but little development; loads of action and killing, but little emotion. I try to talk myself into disliking it, but between Denzel, Pratt, and fast moving action, I was definitely entertained. The violence, however, struck me as very savage for a PG-13 movie.

Magnificent indeed! First-rate western throwback handily bests both Sturges' original and (*gasp*) the Kurosawa inspiration, utilising a terrific cast (headed by an imposing Washington and Indy-like bemused wise-ass Pratt) and expert, methodical pacing before going all-out on some deliriously exciting action sequences. Fuqua combines elements of Peckinpah, Ford and Leone but the results are all his own - if the climactic shoot-out is perhaps a little protracted, well you can't have everything!

Even with a slew of familiar faces and lifting the general plot of a great movie, this is still a pale imitation. When it was announced, I had every hope for it, but there's something about the original western that doesn't translate to big budget movies in the 21st century. Maybe it was poorly handled, but it's hard to tell, I can't quite put my finger on it. Not bad, but not particularly good either.

The Magnificent Seven may lack originality but I was thoroughly entertained throughout. I didn't particularly want or expect a groundbreaking stamp on the Western genre, but credit to Antoine Fuqua for just making a fun Western that doesn't take itself too seriously. The versatile cast is lead by the bankable star quality of Denzel Washington and Chris Pratt is a fun addition with his usual and increasingly typecast comic relief. The set pieces deliver and overall this is enjoyable popcorn fun.

Fuqua doesn't do anything new, but the movie was an enjoyable watch. I have always wanted to see Denzel (Chisolm) in a western. Chris Pratt (Faraday) is his usual, goofy self - which works well here. I would like to see him outside of that role though. Vincent D'Onofrio (Jack Horne) is a mountain man of sorts, and by this point do I really need to say more to get you to catch this film sometime on HBO? In fairness, I do have quite a a bit of affection for D'Onofrio.

It's entirely possible that I've just become a sucker for Westerns done well. Because goddamn it, this is a classic Western done super well. Fuqua made the right choice by taking his truly excellent cast and letting their performances and natural chemistry sit at the forefront. Denzel delivers. Hawke is tremendous. Vincent D'Onofrio is simply awesome. And Chris Pratt remains underrated even now, stealing nearly every scene he's in. If you dig Westerns and great performances, #Mag7 is for you!

The first scene before the title came up on screen, I was like, okay maybe an Antoine Fuqua film I might actually really enjoy. But no. Boring, no memorable characters, shit villain. It's hard to worry about your main heroes when every single one of them have 110% accuracy when shooting someone. Haven't seen the original so can not compare.

The Magnificent Seven does not contend with epic western remakes such as True Grit, nor does it try to. The paper thin plot and occasional cliche moments don't ruin the experience: This is one of the best action movies I've seen in a long time, and it carries the same tension and excitement as Fuqua's other movies.

I can't pinpoint why I didn't enjoy The Magnificent Seven, but it certainly wasn't the main cast. The occasional moments of levity were great (thanks Pratt), and D'Onofrio, Hawke and Lee steal their scenes. Unfortunately, the plot wasn't that captivating. Or perhaps it were the villagers themselves, who were less interesting than their Blazzing Saddles counter-parts. Or perhaps it was action and montages, which play out like a checklist. Despite a few moments, the film isn't that entertaining.

They took a classic film and made it shitty. Why do they keep doing this kind of crap? There were some bits in here that were ok, but it doesn't live up to the original film, or to Seven Samurai, which is an absolute masterpiece.

I didn't know a 40 minute shoot out could be so boring. I realize the main audience for this film probably has no idea who he is, but Byung-hun Lee is honestly the only reason I watched this. One scene feels much more like a remake of Django Unchained than The Magnificent Seven. Fuqua's movie's always feel at least a half hour too long for what they are.

This violent remake presents its seven stars as flawed heroes--bad men with good hearts who sacrifice themselves to deal with even worse men. But as much as I wanted that to be true, and as much as I appreciated the movie's old-fashioned, gun-twirling, sharpshooting moxie, I was bothered by the flippancy with which this movie dealt with death. This was a slick and fun little Western with likable characters with likable interplay, nice slightly retro cinematography (it reminded me of 1998 Mask of Zorro for some reason, just in its look) and a reasonably exciting and well-designed final battle sequence. It's one the year's slightest entertainments, to be certain, never reaching too deep or doing anything surprising, but if you're looking for a slick amusement, sure. Underused and weak main villain though.

UNLIMITED AMMO!!! Due to the fact that we lack many good westerns in the last decade, this is a welcome refreshment. Not one of the great westerns by any means but it is a solid one. It's very telling that so many of the reviews for this movie allude to the fact that not a single character has any discernible character arc, however slight, of any sort. It's true. Fuqua's actors always elevate the material with a hyperreal brashness - D'Onofrio shines here as a bushwackin scalpin Word-thumpin frontiersmin - but with nowhere to go, there's little to ultimately remember them by.

Very comparable to Suicide Squad in that it ultimately adds little to nothing to its genre, and presents nothing more than what you'd expect. However, it does have fun characters who make the movie feel more worthwhile, promotes racial diversity without drawing too much attention to itself, and though so much of the story is predictable, it's still fun enough to be worth at least one watch. Cliched, but well executed and entertaining.

Great character arcs and developments. And great mixed of famous hollywood stars and new faces. Diversion of the roles were fairly shared. Art and Visual directory was also above from the standarts. Character ıntroduces (specially Sam Chesolm) pretty good too. Theme of the movie is so cliche and predictable but quality acting and use of movements are closin this gap easily. And departure of the characters are so powerfull. So ı love it. Catchy humor, classicly good action and strong drama

It has a great cast and they all do well; I especially liked Denzel (as always) and D'Onofrio's character, but yeah, this just delivers on the cool and badassery. Plus, the end when Denzel gets all kinds of serious is so satisfying because any time Denzel does that it's the most intense shit ever. Fun watch.

Intermittently enjoyable new rendition of the old chestnut (well, since 1954). It must be counted a disappointment for not being more fun (it's fairly grim and bleak a lot of the time), for not being more stylish (it's pretty impersonal for the most part), and for not making better use of its cast - although Vincent D'Onofrio, as a semi-feral gunslinger, is legitimately amusing.

The Magnificent Seven (2016) was surprisingly bland considering it was supposed to have a all-star cast and using such a time tested tale. The true grit of the west was lost on these guys, so I looked more on this as a superhero movie, as it had the same modern entertainment based formula as those type of action movies. One where the format carries the feel rather than anything impressive artistically. And in that regard it was alright brain dead extravaganza. But I still did not feel the west.
