The film (with a lively score by Liadov) generally consists of slow, generous shots of the gallery exhibits, the majority of them starting with a shot of the bottom of the painting or drawing and panning up to reveal the rest, the gaze ascending, the shot itself possibly a metaphor for the process of observation of the works, as the gaze at the esoteric art reveals symbols and meanings with a correspondent ascendance in consciousness... A bunch of Crowley's artwork. The art is pretty adolescent, in some cases even infantile, in most cases horrendously bad but a couple of portraits showed promise. There's really no reason for this to exist, though. All Anger did was shoot the pictures and add some music. Just put together a coffee table book or something. Jeez, some of it is even out of focus.

Only worth anything if watched with Anger's commentary track, which at least gives you a sort of tour guide to a very simply shot series of Aleister Crowley's paintings. Like any nutjob, Crowley's art has at least a certain level of imaginativeness and naivety. It is decent, sometimes pretty good even.

Mostly terrible paintings. And the film somehow manages to be both overenthusiastic and anesthetic.

Not exactly an Anger film, just shots of an exhibition of Crowley's "art," so it's quite boring. If you do watch, make sure to switch on Anger's commentary.

It's like watching a boring exhibition of bad artwork from thrift stores. Actually, that could actually be enjoyable, this isn't. Not even the choice of music is interesting.
