H. G. Wells wrote the script for this one, too; ironically, it's much, much better than _Things to Come_. Witty, wise, very entertaining little movie that's helped along by special effects that are great for 1936

A moral parable a la The Twilight Zone - highlighting the best and worst of Wells' theology (he gets sole writing credit - making it a curioso célèbre). In a way, its an inverse of Job's famous tale of woe. The script is witty and, in parts, poignant. The nonchalant psychological acceptance of our Average Man's miracle prowess is refreshing, even after a generation's worth of filmmaking. And the special effects are top-notch.

The Gods give a average man the power of miracles and what happens?! The story is philosophy of how a miracle man would affect the world system. Simple, silly, funny, pathetic, smart all tangled into the project. Roland Young is effective in his role as the clueless man slowly feeling the pressure from everyone about his powers. It's a lovely little movie which could have been better had they been more ambitious with it, but even without going overboard it's still a humerus idea from H.G. Wells.
