Bold attempt to criticize the Syrian refugee crisis and world of modern art at one go. Works quite well most of the time, but could've (should've?) been better.

Really interesting premise and take on immigration that's overstuffed with too many other themes and a poorly cliché love story. The shots are uniquely framed but poorly lit. Still worth a watch based on how unique it is on it's own, but it's disappointing how much more this could have been.

Intriguingly sinewy and sensuous drama which could have done more to develop and exploit its acridly cynical view of the art world, as well as the refugee debate, at the expense of the central romance, which is not particularly well developed and seems to make its same points over and over again. Well performed and well crafted on a technical level, but slightly frustrating in its unwillingness to properly engage with the fascinating subject matter that it raises.

The premise for this is pretty cool and ideal for a biting satire, so I wonder why the actual films feels so lifeless for much of its running time?

Not nearly as provocative as it thinks it is - schematic script doesn't help at all, despite good acting all around (Dea Liane is easily one of the most beautiful faces of any film in recent years). Dramatically inert as contemporary art satire - The Square-esque lol - but it has its moments (fake terrorist attack) of conveying the weird ways late capitalism tries to rebrand itself - and notions of Human Rights and slavery - in a fun, easygoing fashion. Don't know if I like the twisting finale.

Sevgili çiftimiz ayrılıp başka ülkelerde yaşar. Oğlan zor koşullarda yaşayıp, sanat galerilerinden yemek çalar. 1 Sanatçı, suriyeli oğlumuzun sırtına dövme yapar. İlginç 1 senaryo. Aşk öyküsü çok uzatılmış. Böyle naif 1 filmin süresi kısa olabilirdi. Koen De Bouw harika. Filmin sonunda, 2 farklı son var. Bence kötü olan doğrusu. Sanat mı insandan insan mı sanattan yaşar?

Slips between several different themes/ genres, so although this is tackling some very serious subject matter it can seem too lighthearted at times. It is memorable for its artistic framing to emphasis division and isolation.

As a person who has been born on the wrong side of the world, I feel for Ali. You can be easily arrested here, and you might die by a snap of the fingers. I guess what bothers me though is the fairytale ending: Ali beats the system and even mocks the artist who enabled him to do so. Sorry, I live in Iran, I'm not accustomed to happy endings!
