Somber, low-key drama has a lot going for it, especially in the performances: Jagger wonderfully oily and subtly creepy; Coburn's echoes of Hemingway, the always wonderful Williams. But the Garcia character doesn't ring true, and his key decisions range from illogical to naive, making a lot of the drama uncompelling and uninteresting. Well directed, and beautifully shot, but it might have been more interesting if the focus had shifted more towards the Jagger character. An interesting misfire.
