In Stockholm, on St. Lucy's feast day, a bandit daringly robs a crowded post office. Lowly Stockholm vice-squad officers, Jarnebring and Johansson are first on the scene and go on to unearth apparent corruption in high places, but the threads are difficult to pull together and the case is hard to crack. Not the juiciest, most thrilling or satisfying police procedural I've seen, but probably the most naturalistic. The cops in this movie aren't theatrically "tough", they eat quite a lot, they misspeak, have doubts, suffer setbacks, get thwarted by red tape. There's even an argument in the car about burgers, long before Tarantino and much more real sounding. If you're looking for climactic escapism, keep looking. To me, Widerberg is always a breath of fresh air.
