kind of long and dry but never off the point. the scene where the kid attempts to leave the house is great.

Topics of war guilt, infidelity, and dissatisfaction with the American dream are pretty heavy for 1956, but Peck and Jones shine pretty brightly here. If you're in the mood for the more commonplace light drama and melodrama that pre-color movies feature, don't look here, but this sure is one fine movie.

I didn't know what to expect from this one, but got a very intelligent and slightly ahead-of-its-time drama. Great performances by Peck, Jones, March and Cobb.

Not at all how I expected it would be. Judging from the title, I figured it would be in the Patterns/Executive Suite mold. Instead it turns out to be largely about his war experiences...as well as various domestic problems.

A pretty average movie with an average title. We're supposed to wrestle with the protagonist in deciding whether to tell the truth in both his job and his family life. The film has several subplots that keep things interesting but that forces the running time to be a little too long. I'm pretty sure that in a month, I will have forgotten all about this movie, as there aren't many poignant scenes or lines, but that doesn't make it a bad film. Just average.

One guy's after-war angst. Maybe it was ground-breaking at the time?
