Largely compelling thriller echoes DAY OF THE JACKAL contrasting the hitmen's preparation vs a character study of their target. Fragmentary, overly showy storytelling style (as if there was a lack of confidence in the inherent strength of the tale) is a weakness, and hurts the dramatic impetus of the final act. A shame because the story is interesting, and performances roundly superb, with Clarke especially good bringing distinction to the umpteenth portrait of an (unwitting?) Nazi leader.

The first is part is bewitching, dryly juxtaposing Heydrich the family man and Heydrich the monster. The second is a fairly standard assassination thriller, featuring only thinly drawn characters with impenetrable motivations. Acting and camerawork is solid overall.

A very weak depiction of the assassination of Heydrich. You get only a vague idea of the persons on either side and why the allies chose to assassinate Heydrich. Maybe if the director had spent more time on background and building characters instead of sex scenes this could have been an interesting movie.

I couldn't shake the feeling that much of this movie had been lifted from other films. Performances were mostly good. Rosamund Pike was entertaining. The story meanders a bit and I found it hard to get invested. The presentation left me feeling that most of the emotional impact was somehow lost. I wouldn't call this a bad movie, but for me, it wasn't satisfying. Also, the original title HHhH is stupid. The new title "The man with the Iron Heart" is much better.
