The Marksman

Created as if no film like this has ever been made which reads a bit funny when it was proceeded by a trailer for that Tom Hanks movie that is doing the same thing. Stupid decisions by nearly every character, insane coincidences, plot threads frequently abandoned and I guess the twist is that there's very little action. It's great to be watching new movies again!

A little bit of a detour from Neeson's regular outings, "The Marksman" has far less action vibes and ventures into Eastwood type western territory. Honestly, he didn't shoot enough people to make it worth it.

A mostly by-the-numbers look at -- you guessed it -- ex-military Liam Neeson trying to do the right thing. I feel compelled to reiterate: I don't hate Liam Neeson. I like him a lot. But you can't tell me that this isn't an above-average version of the same movies he's been making for years now. But, credit where credit is due, there's more heart here to latch onto because of Miguel and a few other elements; I would take this Liam Neeson movie over a lot of other Liam Neeson movies based on that.

Sub-Clint Eastwoodian in every possible way -- somewhere between neowestern about empathy and a character study on an old former Vietnam who finds a mission to live for by taking care of this Mexican orphan --, and Lorenz even makes the two leads watch a Clint's flick at a motel. Second half is way better than the lifeless first, providing some emotional punch -- Neeson's character in on his way to deliver the boy to relatives in Chicago and gets there mostly dead. Great ending.

Feels much more like a (weak) Clint Eastwood movie than a Liam Neeson revenge story. For better or worse.

Another bland entry into The growing subgenre of Old Man Doing Whats Right At The Mexican Border. Considering it’s called The Marksman there’s surprisingly little sniping in it.

It's certainly not going to win any awards for originality, but it does everything well enough to be entertaining. I know there are problems with how the story is told, and that keeps it from being great, but I enjoyed it and that's enough to give it a passing grade.

Liam Neeson is just amazing. I've enjoyed almost everything he's ever done. This is an action/drama with a lot of heart.

Both Jacob Perez and Liam Neeson give good performances in this film. The script is straight forward with not many surprises but it works. Overall I would recommend this film.

bad movie

Liam Neeson is always reliable and if you throw in a somewhat emotional subplot it is sure to atleast keep you entertained and engaged. It has all the fixings to make for an entertaining movie even if the choices made are not at all realistic.

All you have to do is to shoot action scenes, and yet they fail to do so.

Uninspiring.
