An all too worthy piece, rather like the war propaganda films that would follow in a few years time.

Estreava há 85 anos em Bruxelas. Filme que foi odiado tanto pela direita quanto pela esquerda na ocasião de seu lançamento. Pela direita porque a única coisa que eles sabem fazer é ser pau no cu, tendo o filme sido parcialmente financiado pelo partido comunista acho que eles não gostaram que o resultado final talvez não tivesse suficientemente sangue no zoio como eram os filmes revolucionários do Eisenstein. Renoir aqui opta pela elegância, filme sobre o povo, o gente como a gente. DVD Versátil.

La Marseillaise is definitely a fascinating and intimate historical film from Jean Renoir about the French Revolution. But it suffers too much from being a history lesson then telling a engaging story. The last 30 minutes are real good, but the 100 minutes leading up to the storming of the kings castle is long and forgettable.
