The Matrix series started with a bang and went out with a whimper. Some defend this movie by saying it's supposed to be ambiguous. But I don't think so. I just think the Wachowskis didn't know what to do with it, so they wrapped it up in a bunch of meaningless mumbo-jumbo and let you fill in the numerous blanks.

It's not easy being 'The Matrix Revolutions'. 'The Matrix' is a beloved classic. 'Reloaded' had the luxury of getting to ask loads of intriguing questions, postponing the need to answer most of them. So while 'Revolutions' has plenty of cool moments, it really was doomed to being a disappointment. And so it was.

Ambitious but lackluster conclusion to the trilogy. Like RELOADED, it's full of well-made but ultimately pointless action scenes, sports a few mildly interesting ideas, and is devoid of all but the shallowest emotions. Definitely a letdown, but not the disaster it's been painted as. Newbies should stick to the original.

The Wachowskis admirably try to finish themes present since the saga's first movie. But the denouement is sad and dark--especially the hero story and romance. Cinematically, the prologue is wobbly, and the war set piece is messy. Still, as loving nerds they present a cross cultural, multigenerational, gender inclusive cast that accurately reflects humanity. And the final fight scene is comic book fun that surpasses Superman movies. If you've seen the first 2 there's no reason to avoid this one.

Both MATRIX sequels represent a monotonous rehash of ideas more skillfully (and subtly) explored in the first film, with dull, lethargic action scenes awkwardly interspersed from time to time (even the much ballyhooed freeway chase and multiple Smith confrontations are pretty tired). For a stoic, ineffectual hero, Reeves' participation here still seems dead on arrival; there are long periods of time where you have to remind yourself that Keanu is the nominal star of these things!

I'll admit I like some of the ridiculous action, Neo's exodus into the Machine City, and Smith's descent into madness, but the psuedo-intellectual philosophical rambling hits a frustrating, annoying fever pitch here. Trinity's five-minute death rattle is agonizing and hilarious, and I can't believe the series ends with a fucking Dragon Ball Z fight.

You're mistaken. This movie is not better than the second one, which is also terrible. Reloaded has something going for it that this one doesn't: action sequences that are SO over-the-top that they are entertaining. Revolutions is so heaped in self-importance that the battle for Zion is boring even for what should definitely be a video game level.

What I found most disappointing was that the movie shifted the focus away from two of the three (original) characters that I was interested in and instead introduced incredibly cliched, simple, and boring characters that I was, for some reason, supposed to care and worry about. What was a clever idea and universe becomes here an uninspired action film.

Abject failure. Practically the only good scene is the first one, in that white subway place. The philosophical elements have at this point turned into a complete mess, the great battle of Zion is the most tedious and pointless battle sequence I've ever seen, all the new characters are boring cliches and the old characters are no longer interesting either. Yeah, the special effects are great, but so what?

On revisit I admire how brutal this one is, the nightmarish battle of Zion holds up really well for '03 CGI. I used to be more disappointed by these sequels, but the original Matrix is a film you can't fairly expect sequels to match and now I just appreciate the bonkers ambition they have and how unique they are.

This movie should not be evaluated without thought to how it ties in with the two preceding films in the story. As a final chapter in the story of Neo, Trinity, and gang it did a good job of wrapping up the storylines and explaining some of the mysteries left after watching the second in the series. Should be watched back to back with parts 1 and 2 to be fully enjoyed.

Clearly illustrates the sequels to The Matrix were never planned but upon a repeated viewing it's honestly not as bad as I initially thought. The fight scenes are good, except when CGI is thrown at you from left, right and centre (eg. the end fight scene between Neo and Smith). The plot doesn't feel like the entire series was thought through when the first film was made and some of the dialog is rehashed and reused to the point of annoyance. Still, it's entertaining.

My wife asked for a quick synopsis to catch her up for the fourth film: I just watched 6 hours of Matrix in a row and she told me my explanation was ludicrous. Only after I ruminate with 3 more scotch’s she’s like, “Oh, ok, I get it.” See, Neo’s actually a Christ algorithm with a yang counterpart meant to find Gautama‘s Middle Way with Smith as his counter in a battle for those who reject the Program in a city at the center of the Earth and he goes all Daredevil seeing machines and *passes out*

A sumptuous treat of enormous spectacle, though the stripped back station exchange between Neo and Rama-Kandra is an early highlight. The battle for the Dock is huge and beautiful, the showdown between Smith and Neo pushes the franchise’s creative limits admirably, and I just have to hand it to the Wachowskis and applaud the series’ diversity, which really shines in this outing. A tremendous effort and worthy of the first film.

A man certain of his importance realises what he must do: act as a kind of immunotherapy for a computer-system cancer, and ultimately perhaps become a sort of immune system allowing the competing tendencies of the system to achieve precarious metastability; to be himself the Ereignis allowing Gestell to deviate from its entropic tendency to eliminate the incalculable and non-inhuman. Series as a whole needed a more charismatic female lead. Endless battle scenes make this the dullest of the lot.

There's a lot of stuff packed into this plot and it's hard to make sense of it all, but as a trilogy finale it has a satisfying amount of fittingly epic highs and lows (see the grueling battle for Zion, ominous and lonely lovers' mission to the Machine City, the unique climactic deal and defeat) to go with its hit or miss philosophical quips (Agent Smith's frustrated post-fight speech was a highlight: "You can't win. It's pointless to keep fighting. Why, Mr. Anderson? Why? Why do you persist?").

Awesome work from D. Davis made this enjoyable in spite of everything. An excellent live action mashup of Dragon Ball and some other anime, played out to a fantastic piece of music. Shame about the dialogue and obsession with the boring as fuck Zion.

On 1st viewing I was convinced this wasn't the way to wrap up the trilogy. I wanted to see Agent Smith & the gang try to make Neo crack in the Matrix, not watch a bunch of down and outs in rags shooting big silver squids for half an hour while Neo tries to fly a ship through the Northern Lights with no eyes. However, on 2nd viewing I think it's actually rather good, and wraps up the trilogy quite elegantly. In fact it really couldn't have been concluded any other way when you think about it.

Virtual city blocks are demolished with style in the end of the Matrix trilogy. The Wachowskis decided not think anymore but lift entire scenes from Dragonball Z instead. Also the Keanu Reeves = Neo = Jesus imagery is completely hilarious.

Say what you will about tying up the plot; the exoskeleton scenes are beyond anything previously attempted. The spectacle alone is more than enough reason to watch this film, and it works well as a science fiction story as well -- if not as tightly as the first two in the series.

Although this last installment suffers from some rehashed-from-the-first Matrix action scenes (S&M club shootout); some rehashed-from-Reloaded & exhaustingly tiresome fight scenes (the final battle); more philosophical questions bringing things to a halt than you can shake a Socratic stick at; and worst of all, spending almost no time inside the Matrix itself, the film ends as the Wachowskis wanted it to, crumbling under ideas(!), the mainstream be damned.

I held off on seeing this for two and half years after its release -- everyone I knew told me it was utter garbage, and I wanted my memories of the The Matrix to be fond. When it finally caught up with me, I was surprised at how much I didn't hate it. It's certainly a far cry from the original, but the action sequences are so imaginative, the special effects are terrific. The stilted dialog is a bit much though, and some characters die very lame deaths. Still, it's entertaining in its own right.

Like Reloaded, you kind of have to see this once, but sadly, it's a heaping pile of mistakes. They destroy all of the slick intruige and replace it with blatant, special effect heavy mumbo jumbo. The story is painfully weak. It's one giant final battle, and in an attempt to bring everything to a close, it just trips over itself and drops flat. I recommend everyone wipe Reloaded and Revolutions from their memory and pretend there was only one Matrix movie. Crap!

I think this movie does a lot better with story than the second. Those looking for more in-matrix action would probably be disappointed compared to the others, but the series had been setting up this conflict in the real world as a major event, and I think it pays it off very well. The final fight scene in the Matrix is also exceptional, much better than the burly brawl. The ending also leaves hope for a sequel, and now it almost feels like that final scene could be a teaser.

My inference is that those who like the first film (lots of people) but despise the two sequels (again, lots of people) do not understand the meaning of a saviour, and more specifically Neo as the saviour of Zion (and thus of humanity). To me, this third film is a logical conclusion to the story that unfolds in the two preceding films. The way in which the cosmic battle (Neo vs. Smith) plays out in a simulation of a hyper-physical world (manifested in hand-to-hand combat) is thought provoking.

since much of what we thought we knew about The Matrix was exploded in Reloaded, Revolutions feels tighter, more metallic and crafted, more assured. Forget much of the intellectual sci-fi meatiness you may have been expecting and forget the slow and deliberate exquisiteness of the dialogue in the first two films. The Matrix Revolutions is a basically stripped down, balls-out, piss and vinegar explosion of satisfying action ... that is, once you get past the first half hour or so.

Really enjoyable. Better than the second movie, which I found to be a hardcore action movie. This one was more interesting for me, because it focussed more on the storytelling. However, the ending felt really flat to me. I had the feeling that they could have done more with the lore of the machine world. It was OK though, but it wasn't the satisfying ending that I expected.

This film was a 2003 American science-fiction action piece, and was the third installment of The Matrix Trilogy. The film was released six months following The Matrix Reloaded. The film was written and directed by those same Wachowski Brothers, and released simultaneously in 60 countries on 5 November 2003. By 2003 I had been retired from all FT and PT work.

Entertaining for the most part and some truly spectacular visuals and some really good scenes. The ending in Machine City is awesome and there is a lot of creativity on display, at times. At other times we get 90's clichés and campiness, which do bring the film down. If that were cut, this could have been an awesome finale. As it stands it's still good and a satisfying end of the trilogy, but it could have been even more.

The invasion of Zion becomes tedious action overload pretty quickly, and then lasts for half of the movie. Other than the invasion, it's not a terrible movie. Like Reloaded, it's a little too in love with its philosophy and story, but they are still kinda cool. And for all its flaws, seeing how the story ends is still somewhat satisfying.

To quote the film itself - Captain By-the-book: "It..doesn't..make any sense". All the style of the first film has completely vanished by this point, leaving only the rent-a-quote philosophy and nonsensical plot (250,000 sentinels to destroy Zion? Maybe equip even one of them with a nuke?). If the first film hadn't made such a huge profit this would probably have been a straight-to-DVD release with Keanu relinquishing the role of Neo to Christopher Lambert.

Not quite as bad as Reloaded. At least this had some variance in the action scenes and color theory. Still boring and terribly overlong, with a ton of plot holes and weak premises. The Wachowskis need to realize that if you want your characters to be cool and detached all the time, it means the viewer's going to stop giving a shit when they try to have emotional moments.

The Matrix I've seen the least and now it seems so much better and less confusing than remembered. Still think it takes too much to actually take off, but when it does, wow: Wachowskis pull off some of the most amazing action set-pieces we will ever see -- battle of Zion, fight under the rain -- and manage to close the trilogy with such a poignant emotional punch -- machines taking Neo's body haunts me big time. I will watch M4trix tomorrow and I just can't wait to get back to this world again.

Gets a lot of hate. Unnecessarily so in my opinion. Okay, so compared to the first movie (which is to be fair a bonafide classic) it is seriously flawed and substandard, and even compared to "Reloaded" it falls short. But this is still very enjoyable, even if its ending answers few questions, and in many ways the Wachowski's push the series distinctive visual style too far.

Better than the second movie, but very different to what you'd expect. The last stand in Zyon isn't for everyone. But if you like mech'robots and dragon ball Z style fighting then you won't be disappointed.

After watching Reloaded, I thought the Wachowskis had hit rock bottom and figured they couldn't go any lower. With this crap, it seems they found some sort of tunneling device.

All the while, the Wachowski brothers had us thinking that they would end the trilogy with one hell of a bad ass ending that no one will ever forget, but behind the scenes they had cooked up this. A detestable pile of drivel. I bet they still laugh every day knowing that people went to see this.

I...quite like it. It's been long enough now that I can separate it from my memory of the original film, and just enjoy it as a kitsch cyberpunk roller coaster (best watched drunk or heavily sleep-deprived). (I kept thinking, "this is really good for a scyfy channel movie!") Life is easier with small self delusions. I even laughed-out-loud at the hobo chase and goth club scenes.

With epic fight sequences, one climatic confrontation and the dramatic end of the trilogy Revolutions should have held up quite well, but totally fails to deliver anything. The plotline is severely lacking, especially during the rather abrupt ending, with the script evidently becoming even flimsier since Reloaded. The focus of the film on the real world is jarring, somewhat of a contrast to previous installments. Not good but might be just about worth the watch, if only to round off the trilogy.

A pretty huge failure. It also really gives validity to the woman who sued the Wachowski's for stealing her idea for the original cause man it really looks like they had no clue what they were doing.

If you've seen the rest of the franchise, you may as well watch this one too. In a word, I'm not sure why they switched from a blue pill to a green pill, but I didn't want to swallow it (made worse by the lack of red pill).
