The best Westerns use a post-Civil War era to show characters reinventing themselves. This one extends that approach for an African-American hero. It's awkward in a 70's usage of Nancy Kwon & David Carradine (in brownface) as Native American Indians. And the rape sequences and nudity are terrible. But it gets how the White Southern villains are motivated by a fear of replacement and Northern resentment. The small aesthetics make it closer to a tv show than a movie, but it's still a good viewing.
