Yet another in the recent spate of movies about fathers learning to accept the necessity of their own disappearance. Poor in every aspect and Mark L. Smith is an awful writer. Many bad expensive films get made in Hollywood, but this is one of the most difficult to understand how anyone involved felt it was worth the effort, either in terms of the trek out to frozen Iceland or in terms of investing $100 million. Contains no scenes that aren't either painful, contrived, clichéd or cloying. Avoid.

The kind of movie where tearful wives tell scientist husbands "you're so dedicated to the larger mysteries of life while your own life is falling apart!!!" and suchlike. Didn't finish. Should have stopped at "THREE WEEKS AFTER ""THE EVENT""'"

Holy F. Shit, that was dumb. Bad sound. Drastic tone shifts due to out of place music. The plot events are implausible even for a far fetched scifi movie. One hour in, it turns into The Day After Tomorrow with characters having to dodge mini natural disasters that happen by chance right by them. Oh, and the characters basically look at the camera during conversation to tell and not show their expository dialogue. Of all the shits I've taken in my life, I've never shit a truer turd than this.

Two decent plotlines - one a cliché-ridden but entertaining tale about a spaceship crew, the other Clooney reenacting Logan in sub-zero temperatures - for the most part stand in each other's way, in a story that answers the question "what if that exposition-text in the beginning of most dystopian sci-fi movies was a movie in itself?"

It is dull and simply doesn't work. Poor pacing, emotionally stagnant, aggressively melancholy, contrived, repetitive. Everything this movie sets out to do I have seen done much better.

This is a well made science fiction film. The script is relatively simple but it works. The cast does a good job in this film. Overall I would recommend this movie.

Neither an effective survival nor space film, showing a little promise in both its aspects (wolves in the ice mist, the unique horror of blood in zero gravity) without carrying through enough of anything interesting to make either worth the time. The conceit with Iris is too obvious, the trek is too safe, and the spaceflight is simply too boring for the watered down whole to succeed in any endeavor.

The last decade has seen Clooney the director oscillating between painfully derivative efforts and peculiar outliers – this unfortunately falls into the derivative category; mixing elements of many past sci-fi efforts of the immediate past, this needed to be much tighter and better focused to succeed. Some isolated moments of greatness (Boone's final scene as fluids float around the airlock is a beautifully poignant moment) but this is largely a long and laboured snooze.

It starts out okay. Then you realize it will just be forever slow and some questions are never answered. You don't really even care about any of the characters at all, so... what is the point?

The end still made me emotionally invested even though it hides a key point to give the big reveal oomph. Cared partially because I thought about how sad Augustine's situation is, but the movie itself does the bare minimum to establish that. Lack of drama mostly. I like Clooney. Tedious movie for most of it; the space sections were the worst. At its best, it's showing his solitude but as noted, it doesn't go far enough. The final song is nice, some of the earlier music sucks.

Blatantly not good, and yet, such is my love for these prestige sci-fi things that I still found this hyper-derivative effort to be pretty painless. A completely disposable time-waster that I’m unlikely to remember anything about within a couple weeks. Lovely score from Alexandre Desplat, though, even if it really needed a better film to totally work.

The only thing that is good about this film is that it was filmed well, and thats it. The story is weak, there's no magic, but the worst part is the characters and the pacing. The characters are all the same except Maya, she's the only good character in the film, the rest just doesn't have anything that stands out in them. And finally, the pacing is just so slow, I literally felt numb during the second half of the movie. I don't recommend it.

Wow, didn't realise the hate for this film. I'll preface this by saying I am a Clooney fan, but I, for one, really enjoyed it. I thought the visuals were stunning and the performances were great. The story might not be entirely original (I feel like there are a lot like this), but still, it does a pretty good job of bringing something unexpected to the table.

Pretending to be something great, fails miserably! The whole movie is interrupted by random "incidents" that have little to do with the main plot. Most of the incidents have been in too many space movies already and feel totally outdated. For instance - meteor hits space station and damages it (never seen this in a movie before...). Lose coms and radar (how original). Have to send someone out to fix - they end up getting hurt (didn't see that coming). Water floods bus in a freezing snow storm?!

The scientist Augustine (George Clooney ) is alone in the North Pole. He is attempting to make contact with a spaceship that is on its way back to Earth. The crew, including the young Sully, are on their way to a planet bearing the consequences of a global disaster.

I am very conflicted about this one. Some parts are really good, great even (mostly the stuff that happens on earth), some others are just run-of-the-mill spaceship melodrama. All in all I hope Clooney will keep on working as a director, he'll get there eventually.

was very disappointed at the ending. You invest over 2 hours in a movie and it just falls flat at the end. More could have been done and less could have been told in the 2 hours that it took to view this. Why does every body try so hard to ACT so important. I really wanted to like this movie more.

There have been a number of vague apocalypse movies to come out in the past twenty years and there might be real life financial reasons for deciding not to explore the actual explanation of the apocalypse in a low budget movie, it's almost universally to the movie's detriment. But to further cement the mundane, this one takes place in the Arctic, which is desolate despite the apocalypse, and that really sucks the fun out of it.

I really liked this movie. I think it's well shot and well acted, there's good suspense and some more intense scenes that work well, but I think the slower character building stuff works well also. I think a lot of people may have issue with the way this movie builds its story, but I personally was drawn in, and was quite satisfied with the pay off. Overall I think the movie does a good job getting you to emotionally connect with Clooney's character.

Competently made, with some good shots here and there, and for the most part passes the time. The script and pacing are flawed however, and it likely won’t be remembered for very long. The people attached to it are likely the only reason this is even known. I feel like this had some potential, but there needed to be more to care about, while also shortening its runtime.

The part of Clooney stuff is interesting and beautiful shot. The space station stuff on the other hand is just very run of the mill. Unfortunately the focus shifts more and more to this less interesting plotline. On top of that it gets even more bloated with redundant flashbacks. These even further takes the pace out of this poorly paced movie, cause the pace and tone of the two main plotlines clash. Worse the movie ends by combing the two plotlines in a predictable and unnecessary twist.

Of course there is potential, as much as the whole thing sounds just too familiar. The problem is how little imaginative Clooney's basic-apocalyptic-poetry (and arrogant) direction can't quite develop anything to a decent level of interest. Maya's death is well-imagined, and the film achieves some sort of emotional deepness towards the end. Not that it helps that much.

I liked it while a lot of people didn't. Maybe it's just what I was in the mood for tonight. Sure, there are a few questionable moments, but many sci-fi flicks have far more than a few, so I'm willing to overlook those.

George Clooney'in 3. bilimkurgu filmi. Uzayda yeni 1 gezegen bulma görevinden dönen 1 ekip, dönüşte sorunlar yaşayacaktır. Bu arada dünya, tamamen yok olma sürecindedir. Uzay çekimlerinin başarılı olduğu 1 film. Macera dozu yüksek. George Clooney yerine başka 1 oyuncu olsa daha iyiydi. Özel efekt ödülleri için avantajlı. Filmin sonunda, hiçbir şey olmuyor. Şşşt. Alo. Who cares? If you're going to withhold information either your characters or plot need to be interesting. Incomplete information isn't interesting, compelling, or worthy of attention all by itself. It doesn't become suspenseful because a narrative was ommited, suspense must be created by the narative.

Apocalyptic, defeatist, sometimes dull, and sometimes dumb. I liked the space imagery but was infuriated when crew members chose suicide over survival. The habitable destination around Jupiter was absurd. The plot is full of badly timed random hardships. It paints the ultimate tragedy. Its only hope is that two people could populate a new world, which would get pretty incestuous. But that might make a better story than this. Slow, depressing, and disappointing.
