A solid detective movie, the main reason I would recommend seeing this film is for the vibrant display of Jamaican culture.

Good music, hilarious that Denzel switches between Patois and an American accent every other line. Not that serious of a movie.

Fun Caribbean-set murder mystery, an early vehicle for Denzel Washington who, of course, is excellent. The details of the mystery a bit too complex to detail here, but the main attraction is the local flavor, from the lovely scenery to the people, especially Robert Townsend as the elusive Maubee (wanted for murder) and Esther Rolle as a witch doctor. It doesn't add up to that much, but the reggae soundtrack is great, and the ending is surprisingly memorable.

A charming thriller which works first and foremost as a showcase for Denzel Washington's leading man charms, already developed this early in his career. There's a delightful score and a nice, inviting atmosphere.

The storyline isn't much to brag about, but, occasional accent slippage aside, Washington impresses as Captain Quinn, bringing enough nuance to the character to keep you wondering if he's always going to do the right thing surrounded by a colorful cast of characters who would be more than happy to have him do otherwise.

Watched this solely for Denzel. Not worth it.

Would have loved to have seen what Carl Franklin could have done with this material in the mid-90s. As is, Mighty Quinn is charmingly low-key with a great sense of place, seductive energy, and a likable performance from Washington. Only complaints: Schenkel understates Townsend's trickster so that what should have been magical realism ends up feeling just silly. And James Fox is really bad.

It isn't great but I'm still thinking about that reggae song shifting into Quinn the Eskimo. Denzel has enough presence to make this worth watching. It's the slower moments that I appreciated more than the mystery elements but I did appreciate that a helicopter blows up. I'm a man that appreciates both subtlety and big fire go boom boom. Unrelated to that, yes, I did love Terminal Velocity.

This movie has a god cast that works well together. The script has a few slow spots but it also contains many interesting scenes and an exciting n climax. Overall I would recommend this film.
