For a decade I've lived about three buildings up from the filming location here that gave Bono such a hard-on he just had to write a treatment about some lovable miscreants on a redemption arc. It doesn't take someone who passes this building every day to tell you the characters are wildly inauthentic. There's this wonderful opening shot of the camera descending as if from heaven onto these sullied streets - which could not be a better example of the aloofness of the perspective here.

There is not a single character here who can reach the lofty ambition of being tolerable.

Of course Bono has a writing credit on this horrible, inexplicable, consistently irritating film.

I can't explain it, but there's a strange feeling of similarity between this and wings of desire, I'm not sure how, but Wim Wenders put some mystifying stamp on those movies that defies definition. Sadly, it takes more than an idiosyncratic stamp to make a good movie. This one has a noir feel, great actors, and a plot that is intriguing and engaging, yet this movie completely and utterly fails. Just like I cannot explain what makes this a Wim Wenders movie, I can't explain why this sucks.

Beautiful cinematography and music, great acting, script could have used some fleshing out but all in all pretty wonderful.

The cast should have been limited to 3-4 people. I don't care if it's a hotel. Everyone but Jovovich & Davies seriously pissed me off.

it is trying too hard to have quirky characters, it's borderline insulting for people in similar situations to have the whole movie going, hahaha look at the silly delusional people! Cute clowns, only if you don't come too close!

Well filmed but very odd plot that really doesn't work, it's almost like they are trying to force you to like these oddball characters.

This is probably the most underestimated film in year 2000. Truly beautiful story written by Bono is filmed mostly only in one building or near by. Its probably the best work from Wenders and definitely the best acting by Jeremy Davies. Everybody did very well, expect Mel Gibson. He was like a tar on artists painting.

Don't remember a lot about it, but I'm going to say it's a movie that had a lot of potential but never really reached it.
