It's a scenario seen in a dozen other B-pictures, but it's a classic. This movie is quite a bit more noir than Cry Danger and really nails the look and feel, with a lot of great dialogue. Broderick Crawford is terrific in the lead, reminds me of Paul Douglas but with a tougher edge. Pretty good casting all around, actually, including a minor role for Ernest Borgnine and a blink-and-you'll-miss-it appearance by Charles Bronson. It's hard to call this a great film, but it scratches the noir itch.

Another solid Noir included in the Indicator's Columbia Noir box. Crawford is good as the cop who goes undercover in the waterfront/docks, and so is the the rest of the cast, including Borgnine in a small role and Bronson in one scene. Pacing is good and there's plenty of fun & tough dialogue. It gets pretty intense and the finale is actually closer to a thriller. I also got German Krimi vibes due to the dock setting and the mystery surrounding the secret identity of the criminal mastermind.

Broderick Crawford is another one of those actors who I recognize, and who always gives a good performance, but who I always forget about. This one was rather fun; an investigation noir with a bit of a twist that works really well, has some really solid pacing, and good performances, including a nice little early role for Borgnine. Other than wishing the ending was a little better executed it's pretty flawless.

Broderick Crawford gets to do what he does best. Run his loud mouth. Pretty straight forward undercover job, talking to a lot of suspicious people until the main villain revealing himself to be the most obvious one. Solid crime flick.
