Indiana Jones meets Army of Darkness. Has such a gleeful sense of fun that I can't help but love it. A lot of people didn't realize how good this movie was until the horrid 2017 version came out, but I've been there since the beginning, baby.

This charming resurrection of "Encino Man" remains its definitive iteration. Billy Zane turns in a career performance by convincing everyone that he's in this movie. Beni is straight up one of the all-time best lackey characters in cinema. Nearly all of my kumpels trashed this wonderful shlock and it looks to me like you're all on the wrong side of the RIIII-VERRRRRR!!!

I rank this amazing romp among the best in the adventure genre, as it delivers everything you could ask for: fun characters, played by game actors with their tongues placed firmly in their cheeks, wall-to-wall action at a breakneck pace and, perhaps most impressively, a tight and smartly structured script, replete with loads of one-liners with just the right amount of cheesy sillyness and genre mumbojumbo. Love it. And now we're at it, I've got a soft spot for 'Deep Rising' as well.

Banter and pratfalls fly around just like an old Hollywood screwball comedy or that drunk Brit with a plane. Every actor - but Weisz and Fraser especially - seem to channel early film comedy with an earnest yet manic physicality that somehow enhances a story about a CGI corpse resembling Arnold Vosloo. Even the stock characters are there (Jonathan of course, but I'm looking at you, Beni). Rightly bridges old Studio comedy charm with new Hollywood effect-action. Brilliant in its mold.

Solid adventure with nice effects and a pleasant comedic vein running through it. Brendan Fraser just works as this cocky chap, and a scene where he casually throws a chair to stop someone running away from him illustrates why I like this piece of popcorn. As usual, avoid the sequels.

One of the best action comedies in recent years, it inspired a good sequel and a great rollercoaster at Universal Studios, and in my mind cemented Brendan Fraser as a go-to guy in Hollywood. Great action scenes, really good acting for an action film, great story. Great great great!

A benchmark low. MORE IS MORE mentality has won out. Rocketing away from plausibility & logic it is not enough for hero to fight 10 guys, he must fight 40. Not enough to fight 40, but 60 undead. With guns, mind you. Characters are paper-thin b/c it's hard to make them interesting & kids don't care, so why even try? But CGI is thick, fat, and on full display. It'd better be b/c you need something interesting to look at since you've seen it all before. A fireworks display. Made a fortune. Why try?

Getting all my priests together to hex up the hexingest most evil curse for my tomb and a thousand years later some idiots dig up my corpse and grind it into pills that'll give people a boner maybe. The opening of this is great and not because of the sheer Egyptian jammies but how stupid the punishment is - Why would they punish someone with a death that will turn them into a magical immortal being. Whatever! A great time marred by horrible, horrible 90s CGI we all haf to suffer through.

Explorers unwittingly reanimate an Ancient Egyptian mummy and must prevent it from taking over the world. Fraser, Weisz and Hannah all excel in light-hearted roles, and O'Connor's cowardly Beni steals plenty of scenes. The action set-pieces are entertaining, the pace relentless, the villain convincing and the special effects still impressive years later. The script is also full of humour, and the score is fantastic. Sommers essentially sets the benchmark for modern action-adventure tales.

After all these years, this movie is still as dumb and corny as ever. Fortunately, this plays into this so well. Fraser and Weisz are as a great of a duo you could find, and with some of the outdated affects, it kinda gives it a charm for being a product of a 90's cheesy and dumb Action/Adventure. The Mummy gets away with not being a technical masterpiece, because it plays into that idea. Wether it's the cheesy writing, over the top action sets, or sheer self awareness, this is just great.

Cheesy, in some bad ways and some good ways: The opening historical background sequence is just horrendous in its melodrama, dated CGI, and outlandish "Egyptian" costumes, and these things occasionally pop up again, but the over-the-top characters (see Weisz' awkward British lass, the trigger-happy, bourbon-drinking Americans) and goofy sense of humour ("You probably won't live through it" *happily* "You really think so?") combine well with the spooky adventure tale for an overall fun watch.

Flat, inert adventure film seems to want to ape INDIANA JONES, but Fraser is no Ford and Weisz no Allen (or even Capshaw/Doody). May have played better when the cheesy CGI effects were more cutting edge, but even then the overlong screenplay scattered with cornball jokes (at least they don't range into scatological) would have made this a tough sell. Some admittedly pretty scenery and a relatively fun bit for Hannah in support occasionally liven things up.

An obvious attempt to create an Indiana Jones style action adventure romp, but what do you know, it succeeds brilliantly. Fraser isn't Indy, but he's perfectly serviceable as the dashing lead. Weisz and Hannah add a little something different to the formula, and the sizeable supporting cast are all well fleshed out. The FX and action scenes are enjoyable so this one stands as one of the best Indy rip offs ever made.

An amusing, entirely watchable and fairly entertaining bit of (blatantly) Indiana Jones-inspired fluff, emulating the sense of adventure, liberal use of comedy, and supernatural happenings of that series. Brendan Fraser is obviously no Harrison Ford, but Arnold Vosloo's interpretation of the mummy is cheesy / awesome.

Pretty good family-friendly action movie. The most gruesome violence is kept off-camera or in shadow, and the fight scenes border on slapstick. The humor tries a little too hard at times, but it's still interesting to see a classic horror movie re-imagined as an action/adventure family movie. For such a big genre change, they did a pretty good job.

Overrated when it was released, a bit underrated now. Up until about 30 minutes before the end it's an alright adventure, but then it goes sharply downhill towards the end. My judgment might be tainted by nostalgia and my love for Brendan Fraser, but.. Hell, this isn't bad. I enjoyed it for what it was, particularly the first half. It's not good, but it's decent. All worth it for Fraser throwing a chair across the room in violent rage.

It's not hard to see why this film has gone through several cycles of dismissal and reappraisal: it's clearly derivative of works that were already pastiches; its characters are the merest sketches of an impression of an archetype, given some life, despite the clumsy dialogue, by charismatic leads (the exhaustingly cowardly and variously exotic secondary cast doesn't fare so well); and its aesthetic places itself on a spectrum between campy Harryhausen charm and 90s Egypt-themed CGI wallpaper.

I won't deny that The Mummy is fun. It is. I guess I just wanted more, or at least a release after these long set-pieces. If you watch this movie hoping for a brainless action movie, you won't be disappointed. If you want something more, or even a tight remake of the 1932 film, you'll be disappointed. You might feel that way anyway just because of the way that the endings of the action scenes are handled, but you'll probably enjoy the ride for the most part.

A reasonably entertaining special effects heavy treatment of the (Boris) Karloff classic is really more of a buildup to the far superior sequel. Brendan Fraser, Rachel Weisz & John Hannah do a good job of playing to the special effects & off each other, but the real stars of both films are the guys who lend visual credibility to their roles as egyptians- Oded Fehr, as protector of ancient secrets Ardeth Bey, & Arnold Vosloo as the Mummy himself, Imhotep.

Great adventure movie in the vain of Indiana Jones. I loved all four of the troupe who sets off to Hamanaptura. Rachel Weisz is cute, smart, and always getting herself into trouble. Brendan Fraser is quick witted, quick shooting, and quickly forgotten with Ms. Weisz standing next to him. A much more over the top and sillier take on the Indiana Jones style adventure. Obviously impossible to take seriously, but it isn't meant to be. It's filled to the brim with action and comedy, and moves at a brisk pace the whole way through.
