Lightning didn't strike twice here, no sir-ee. The first movie was dumb fun, this one's just dumb. Feels like the hastily slapped-together cash grab that it is. And yet, the CGI Scorpion King at the end is so hilariously awful that it demands to be seen at least once in your life.

Lots of action but no real story, just action sequences loosely tied together in order to get you to the next scene where something else will blow up or something along those lines. A pity because The Mummy was far more entertaining. Although the action in this movie is fun the serious lack of any attempt at a plausable plot drags it down from good to mediocre.

While the first one was effective as an adventure in the mold of Indiana Jones, this one recycles and rehashes the interesting elements, and introduces annoying elements such as the irritatingly precocious bratty child.

This movie was a dissapointment after the remake of The Mummy. Brendan Fraser did an excellent job in the first movie. With the right script, he could have gotten a very good action franchise off of the Rick O'Connell charecter. Sadly, this was just not a strong enough story. The movie felt recycled. Then to be followed up by the Scorpion King? This storyline is now officially dead.

Admittedly, this movie is much dumber than the first (Weisz's weird princess arch is the best example) these effects are also at points, hilariously bad (The Rock/Scorpion King CGI is iconic) so I can totally understand anyone's dismay for this film. However, I appreciate this series for being what it is: Dumb popcorn Action/Adventure flicks. They're goofy, and Fraser is especially a goofball. I was entertained, and that's all I really take from this. I don't think about it too much.

A perfect example of an all round poor film. It makes you wonder how dull, unimaginative rubbish like this becomes popular? If you want an all out action popcorn flick there is much better out there than this.

It's pretty dumb and for all the children who missed out on Indiana Jones. Honestly this is about as good as the first film which is to say it's extremely mediocre overall.

It's the same film as the first, but with an annoying kid and even worse CGI. There's absolutely nothing new in this cheap cash-in. Worth seeing the end just to boggle at how someone thought that terrible CGI Rock Lobster was good enough to put on-screen.

Far from perfect, and wholly implausible at more than a few points, but the movie has energy and spirit, still delivering good action and ample humor. The effects aren't too bad for earlier CG, aside from that horrid Rock scorpion at the end.

The Mummy Returns is drastically worse than it's predecessor but it's nowhere near as awful as the sequel that follows. The sense of adventure carries over well from the first film and the main characters Brendan Fraser, Rachel Weisz and John Hannah are enjoyable. But the inevitably ushered in child is annoying and the inclusion of Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson as the Scorpion King was the final blow for me. The set pieces are enjoyable but the PS2 standard special effects are absolutely awful.

The script reaches new levels of ridiculousness (mummified pygmies, dog armies, a woefully neglected child), which bring with them new levels of cringe-worthy CGI (I nearly vomited in my mouth upon seeing the reincarnated Scorpion King) and green screen scenes (see the flight over Egypt, standing on the pyramid). Decent action/adventure set pieces and a few self-aware quips courtesy of the self-preserving Uncle Jon ("Ah, the old 'wipe out the world' ploy") keep this from being a total wreck.

Passable adventure yarn is lighter on its feet than the first film, with Fraser in particular seemingly more relaxed and comfortable (especially when maintaining an amusing running commentary on events); as a whole, the cast are only required to be likable without bumping into the furniture and they succeed at this, with even a nice bit of kiddie acting from Boath. Undermined by typically hideous early-00s CGI (with Johnson's climactic appearance suffering particularly).

Do I have to be the only one to admit that this sequel wasn't all that bad? The entire surviving cast returns for another grand adventure in Egypt, and while not quite as original as its predecessor, it's just about as much fun. I agree, however, the f/x at the ending showing us the scorpion king are downright awful.

Unsatisfying sequel to Stephen Sommers's enjoyable original sees Brendan Fraser and Rachel Weisz return to Egypt, annoyingly cute son in tow, to fight zombies and Arnold Vosloo's titular Mummy, back from the dead once again. There are chases and thrills galore, but in place of the high sense of adventure that the first movie had are Hollywood cliches and a dumbing-down of the entire B-horror concept to ensure maximum revenue at the ticket counter.

I hesitate to call it a good movie, because that's not exactly accurate, but it's so cheesy and campy and unintentionally (?) funny that I can't claim to have not enjoyed myself to some degree. Imhotep's on-his-knees powerslide into a screaming "Noooooo!" at the end is one of the funniest things I've ever seen.
