The Naked Gun: From the Files of Police Squad!
Leslie Nielsen stars as Police Squad's own granite-jawed, rock-brained cop Frank Drebin, who bumbles across a mind-control scheme to assassinate Queen Elizabeth. Priscilla Presley, O.J. Simpson, a stuffed beaver, two baseball teams and an odd assortment of others join the wacko goings-on and blow the laugh-o-meter to smithereens. (Paramount)

Hilarious. It just pelts you with joke after joke, and for every one that doesn't work another two do. Leslie Nielson is brilliant in a completely dead-pan performance.

It's a lot of fun though some parts feel very dated today (especially the godawful soundtrack choices) plus the emphasis on plot makes some parts drag - compare to perhaps Airplane! where the plot, while still there and at the forefront, is constantly obscured by comedy, whereas here the jokes are more integrated with the plot but the plot isn't interesting enough to warrant paying real attention to it. The Naked Gun is obviously still a good comedy and Nielsen is great but it's too structured.

Just about right. Another great parody starring the one and only Leslie Nielsen; a type of humor that only he and Chevy Chase can do, and only he can do correctly. Also, great to see OJ pre-trial.

The plot is forgettable, it relies a bit too heavily on dated slapstick (even for the 80s) and only has a handful of really fun gags. Disappointing coming from the creators of Airplane.

Straight up farce. A lot of gags don't work, but a lot still do (even though they've been repeated ad nauseum by later comedies until they stopped working). Seeing O.J. is weird, but Leslie Neilsen is always awesome. Best moments include the horrific baseball reel, and the Shakespeare in the park deadpan.

Not quite as good as Zucker's Airplane!, which I think it can be rightly compared to, but it's still a great silly, slapstick film. It really lampoons a lot of the silly crap that happens in so many cops and robbers movies. Plus you've got Leslie Nielsen doing exactly what Leslie Nielsen does best: dead-pan slapstick humor. For added humor you can also see O.J. Simpson in his acting career because he was a criminal, or at least a known criminal.

The movie is basically just rapid fire throwaway gags, yet somehow their quantity doesn't hurt their quality. The humor is sometimes dated but it aged decently gracefully for a flick from this era. If you're into this type of comedy, you'll have a great time. I had a few laughs.

The Naked Gun: From the Files of Police Squad! is a hilarious movie and if you don't absolutely adore it I'm not sure if we can be friends anymore. Almost every joke works, and even if it doesn't, for the most part, the film will move on soon enough for it to not be bothersome. It mixes spoof, satire, slapstick and gags together for a fantastic experience, juvenile and silly as it may be. I don't know how someone can dislike The Naked Gun. This is one of my favorite comedies of all time.

The thing is, this movie would not work in a different time and without Leslie Nielsen (So my expectations for the Ed Helms reboot is sky high). The slapstick humour that is prevalent in this movie continually tries to be replicated and failing, because this movie did it the best.

Leslie Nielsen makes a name for himself in The Named Gun series of films. His appearances in Airplane are a primer for his Frank Drebin character. These movies solidified the farce genre of movies in the American comedy canon. Sure there are some dated jokes but it's too be expected for this type of movies. Overall the jokes still hit their mark and they still made me chuckle. The cast of this movie, line all farces, is chock-a-block full of Hollywood regulars that you wouldn't expect to see

The film that took the 'spoof movie' to its zenith; hilarious from the first frame to the last, with an unlikely comedy cast's incredible dead-pan work fired by Nielsen's amazing Drebin. Works so much better than the multitude that followed it by playing everything completely straight and letting the absurd gags fall naturally. Who doesn't feel for the poor mayor when that press conference ends so disasterously? Chemistry between Presley and Nielsen also adds to the fun.

I'm not sure what I think about this film because it's quite a mixed bag. The opening scene with OJ is pretty funny, some of the early jokes are contrived (like the pen in fish-tank gag), Frank shooting at his own car is a hilarious throw-away gag, the statute set-piece is hysterical and had me busting a gut laughing, and then the laborious climax scene at the baseball game is a fairly unfunny chore to sit through. It's at least always trying and sometimes hits some incredible highs.

If the movie is a hit, you must watch it. Leslie Nielsen is the king of spoofs. This movie proves it. I love this film, it has a ton of good jokes. You might not like all of them, but some will have you in stitches. It's pretty weird to see O.J. Simpson in a film, if you can get over how you feel about him and what he may or maybe didn't do, he has a pretty funny character in this, although you feel bad about how beat up he gets. Ricardo Montalban is terrific as the bad guy (as he always is!)...

Nielsen is the king of this dumb domain, and Frank Drebin is his most iconic role and a complete showcase for his unique comic talent. Based on the equally hilarious Police Squad, T.N.G follows the exploits of Drebin, a bumbling incompetent police officer who succeeds despite (and because of) his complete idiocy. Nielsen had the rare gift of knowing exactly where the joke of every scene was, and he had strong support in Simpson and Presley, who are surprisingly good at comedy themselves.

Great comedy. Very reminiscent of "Airplane!" (another favourite) and just as worth watching. Physical humour has never been so entertaining. In fact, I miss films like these, while I love the newer more realistic comedies of Apatow and friends I find that they rely heavily on characters and dialogue instead of gags. Someone give an example of a good "gag" movie that's come out in the past few years?

Another good goofball comedy, starring the likeable Nielsen as the typically bumbling lead. Although there are moments where it takes a much more mediocre turn, the sections of intense humour spread thickly about the rest makes for a vastly enjoyable viewing. It's the only time I can remember laughing so hard I felt sick afterwards. While an excellent spoof, it isn't for everyone with the usual mainly visual based wacky humour aimed towards people with slightly dirty minds. That'd be me then.
