What's that Sam? Take your, uh, blood? But I don't need your blood. Haha, silly man. ... Well, okay so I do want it... 'specially if you're giving it away. Just a bit. For cataloging purposes and stuff. To be honest I wouldn't mind some of that sweet, sweet Midi-chlorian count heheh. Hm... Is... Is that all you have to offer? Could I have some of your *Twitch* What's that?! Hello? ... HELLO?!? Anyone there?? ... Oh, haha, we're alone, Sam. What were you asking of me?

Ludicrous and generic, but reasonably effectively tense, which always counts as something of a success for the kind of movie in which the audience knows with almost total confidence that everything will play out according to the dictates of conventional Hollywood storytelling. Which it does.

The movie just doesn't feel very epic. With Kevin Spacey and Samuel L. Jackson in the two lead roles I just expected so much more. It's a decent movie but nothing really that great at all.

This is just a fun and dumb action movie. There is nothing incredibly deep or different about it, it's actually quite cliche and recycled in so many aspects, especially for today's standards. However, I get to see Jackson and Spacey go at it, and sadly I'm a big fan of Spacey as an actor, so I found myself really entertained. There is a fine line where I know this isn't great, but yet I really enjoyed it and it makes it hard to judge based off that notion. It's a guilty pleasure.

Jackson and Spacey are phenomenal together (not surprising since either is usually good on their own). Good mixture of suspense and action. Some good twists even though the end was a little predictable. Still overall, one of the few movies I have really enjoyed watching recently.

Alright, it is almost 1.30 in the night here and this is a solid, solid thriller. Criticker tells me to that this movie is alright, but hell no, this is a Samuel L. Jackson movie with Spacey. No way this is alright. This is great. Seriously, this is just the right proportion of emotion and tension and backstabbing that you would expect in a thriller.

Entertaining movie that shows you its cards before it plays its hand. The plot is vaguely intriguing, but the audience is told way too much way too soon. We know Jackson's innocent. We know there are corrupt cops on the force, hell, we even know which ones are corrupt. We know that in the end, they will be taken down. Redemption comes from the film's lead actors, and F. Gary Gray should count his lucky stars he inked two of the strongest talents in the business in SLJ and Spacey. Formulaic fun.

The acting is "adequate" but the whole thing feels like a vanity project for Samuel L. Jackson and Kevin Spacey to be together in a film. The plot is shakey with plenty of loose ends and the character motivation just isn't convincing. It's standard mediocre Hollywood stuff.

There was some fun moments in this overblown piece of hollywood. In real life the hostages would be dead while the cops argued over who was going to pay for all the helicopters and searchlights

One of those cases when acting is better than characters and the movie is better then the script. After couple of low-budget afro-American themed flicks F. Gary Gray gets to helm a full blown action film, and does a really fine job. Made in a times when any thriller is expected to be built around action scenes, it is unique because it creates tension using dialogs rather than shootouts. Biggest weakness of the film is a poor script and misstep from the realism.

This film has a far fetched premise but it also has a great cast. Both Kevin Spacey and Samuel L. Jackson are excellent in this film. There are other good supporting performances, two examples are Paul Giamatti and J.T. Walsh. There are plenty of exciting scenes that help make up for a far fetched script.

Jackson and Spacey put on an acting clinic in this edge-of-your seat thriller, which with a little tightening up of plot holes, could have been excellent. Still quite good, with director Gray showing a compelling style and nail-biting tension. The premise is intruiging, even if far-fetched, and it's very intense up until the unsatisfying end.

It's difficult to take a protagonist seriously who commits a series of crimes to prove he's not a criminal, and I don't think this film ever conveys its stakes very well. That being said, this film is an excellent dramatic turn for Samuel L. Jackson and Kevin Spacey's performance is great as well. It's a satisfactory thriller that used its consistent hair-raising tension to hook audiences and string them along.

The story,... I wish I had an overly deep English vocabulary so I could use more perfectly chosen words to describe how well the story is constructed without giving the plot, it's believable and exciting, that's my best go at it in just shallow words. It's a great film, cast, plot, hell even the intro credits design is spot on. A smart action movie that, for me, ended up among the most/best entertaining ones.

Sam Jackson promoted this film by comparing it to Heat; but with himself & Spacey sharing more than one scene together. I'm not sure it lives up to those lofty expectations as it's essentially an average 90's action movie. It's equally dated given what the audience has since learned about police corruption and racism. Still, F. Gary Gray makes it a passable thriller by keeping the tension going by using his familiar tropes--namely a former acquaintance being turned into an enemy.

A personal favourite of mine. Interesting setup and then we have the two leads chewing the scenery for the next couple of hrs and it's very entertaining. It does run a little long and would love to have seen a tighter cut as there are plenty of sub plots that could have been dropped without impacting the end result. But for me this is always watchable and one of the best action thrillers of the late 90s.

Arguably F. Gary Gray's best film, the Negotiator packs an excellent blend of character, action and drama into a two hour who-done-it thriller. Sam Jackson stars as a Negotiator trying to prove his innocence by putting himself on the other end of the negotiating table. Despite starring Kevin Spacey as the opposing Negotiator, Sam Jackson and David Morse deliver the most impressive performances and build real character intrigue on top of a decent suspense script.
