It's like Jaws with bugs and then takes some twists and turns out of The Thing and Re-Animator. More than just your average bug fest.

Weird little movie about flesh-eating cockroaches. Plenty of gore if you're into that sort of thing, and an especially memorable bit where a lady entomologist has the hungry little buggers on her gloved hand and looks as turned-on as can be. Not good, really, but after you see enough horror films, you start to be grateful for an 80s movie that's NOT the usual alien/mutant/slasher/zombie routine

Solid performances, characters who for the most part feel like people, & some really nice practical effects bring this cool premise to life & make it worth watching. However, it's got its problems- the romantic subplot feels pretty half-assed, the final twist a bit unnecessary, & most of the side characters more than a bit inconsequential. It's a solid enough 80's horror flick, but it never quite reaches great even if it never sinks to awful.

Good, bad and cheesy 80s horror/creature feature.

A super fun super creepy (especially if bugs give ya the creeps) cockroach creature feature. Lots of gross out fly esque stuff. There’s a fucked up cat-roach hybrid. Every character actor getting to fully embrace their stupid side and go full troma without it like really shoving your face in it. 50’s sci-fi run thru the 80’s blood and guts machine. Recommend for a weekend watch. They truly don’t make this stuff anymore

The Nest is exactly what I hope for when I throw on an 80’s creature feature. It’s gruesome, it’s grisly, it’s often vaguely stupid, and it culminates in a showdown with nasty, effectively realized monsters whose grotesque images will stay with me for a long time. I even rewound one scene that was so goopy and gory I had to see it twice! Yes, this movie about meat-eating, man-eating roaches delivers.

A low-budget exploitation film, done with more intelligence and humor than most.
