The best part of seeing this in the theater was the Bugs Bunny cartoon attached to it.

This grabs less ideas from the book than the first movie did and the book is absolute magic. In all honesty, The Matrix sequel grabs more ideas from the book than this did. The original contained a sort of innocence that the sequel doesn't seem to capture or understand. And that goes for The Neverending Story II as well.

Oddly enough the story should have ended before this or any other sequels were made.

No, NeverEnding Story, you should have an ending and it should have been the first film.

Not sure what happened here but man does this suck. Part of the problem is the change of actors and director, another part could be that this part of the story which is also in the book is not nearly as good, you could even say it had something to do with the much smaller budget. But I for one can't understand how it could've turned out this bad even given those reasons.

This wasn't necessary. No wonder Jonathan Brandis killed himself. Between this, Ladybugs, and Sidekicks, he probably couldn't leave his house.

Puke. This is so boring that I was praying that Clarissa Burt would get naked, even though I knew that would never happen in a movie aimed at small fry

A story that should have ended with one movie.

Aggravating because of the "I wish for a step...I wish for a step..." scene draining all his memories at once. If he'd just wished for all the steps at once (like a sane, smart person, which supposedly the hero is) there's no movie.

How could they take such a magical experience that the first movie offered and totally rape it of imagination and wonder? For the answer, watch this heap of turds.

Oh shit, what happened here? It incorporates elements from the book that were left out of the first film, but um, it doesn't really do anything well. But, I'm ashamed to say I'll probably still watch this whenever I see it on TV.

Drab, flaccid sequel negates and strips almost all of the first film's assets and charms, presenting a seriously muddled story of gaining the courage to jump off a diving board? The endearing pro-reading message of the first film (a rare case where the wrap-around narrative worked terrifically) is completely lost, and the built up role for Bastian's father is basically a waste of time. All this and it still manages to cheesily rip-off the highlights of Part 1. Hopefully the end is in sight!

I'd be willing to wager that Jonathan Brandis' suicide was directly related to his embarrassment at having acted in utter shite like this.

I must really be in the small minority here that can't really see why people hate this movie. Granted I haven't watched it in years and it's not nearly as good as the original, but still. Oh and also, anyone who says "I bet this is why Jonathan Brandis killed himself", you're the worst type of fucking scumbag person on the planet. Just pointing that out.

It's funny to think that there is a sequel for a never-ending story. Regardless, this movie does take more material from the very dense book created by Michael Ende. The movie isn't great, but I still kinda like it. Falkor the Luckdragon will never not be cool. Haha.

Hasn't got the charms of the first, which was spread a bit thin as it was. The best thing about the first were the effects, which were well-crafted and magical. Here the effects don't seem as great and the acting has somehow gotten worse as well.

A passable sequel that lacks a lot of the charm of the first movie. Also, RIP Jonathan Brandis.

So look I realize every other review of this movie in existence is negative. But despite recasting almost every role from the first film, not exactly being a necessary expansion of the lore and some rough writing, I found it kinda charming. The lush dreamy 80s look and atmosphere of the sets and matte paintings and costumes and prosthetics and effects just got me, I LOVE that stuff, and it's all so well done here. This is not childhood nostalgia btw, I just watched this now in 2023 age 38.
