My 3,000th Review. An elite Triad assassin defies his bosses, leading to a series of devastatingly brutal fight sequences involving knives and machetes. There's more vicious slashing, stabbing and splattering gore in this flick than in all the Friday the 13th movies combined, and it's pretty cool to see Iko Uwais playing a villain. It's just a shame the story is a jumbled, confused mess, otherwise this could've been an all time classic. The action is still more than worth watching it for.

while the action loves its jolts of blood and violence, it felt so sluggish compared to what I've come to expect from this action choreography. and Tjahjanto can't slide smoothly from grit to melodrama at all.

Fully commits to delivering large, long and insanely violent action scenes from start to finish. It's worth watching for that alone, but unfortunately the film mostly lacks the propulsive pace or sense of fun that the genre's best entries have to offer.

I wanted to like this, but too much idiotic gunplay and asinine fight scenes destroy all credibility. It has a few good fighting moments, but scenes such as three shooters with automatic weapons six feet away and the protagonist hiding behind a flimsy desk were just cheap, lazy and pathetic. How about the grenade in the police van? There were a few good parts, but so much absolute garbage? It became incredibly tedious and barely worth watching. However, it had some excellent gore.

i can always appreciate fight scenes that utilise the surrounding environment, and damage the human body, in ways that seem plausible in the moment. but if there's one thing this movie demonstrates, it's that such scenes alone do not a great action movie make. 'tis probably better than the raid at least.

A bit of the old ultraviolence.

Excellent action film. It's almost "too much" at times, which I think makes it just perfect. There's more violence in this than I've seen in any other movie. It's basically like if Rambo 4 and Total Recall had a baby movie and it grew up to become magnificent.

Obvious comparison is with The Raid. This lacks a little in the choreography (it's still awesome but sometimes people just stand around waiting a little too much) but trades it for more bloodshed. It's incredibly violent, everything feels crunchy with bad intentions. It's a thrill ride but The Raid series has slightly better fights and a better story. When the fighting isn't happening the pacing feels a little off, but I love what Indonesia is bringing out in this genre.

Had a few decent shots, but the gruesome combat lacked a certain fluidity and the plot was poorly set up and failed to grab me. (DNF)

Carnage, if done right, can propel a film with a throwaway plot. This is proof of that, in all of its head-wound-bone-crunching chaos.

Classic heroic bloodshed story with heavy emphasis on the bloodshed part. Whenever a fight happens in this movie (which is like 70% of the run time), no limbs, body fluids, bones stay where they were a few seconds ago. The basic 90s action flick story is merely a vehicle for a ton of balls to wall fight scenes. A legit charming amateurish and "fuck the small budget" attitude amplifies the brutality of the excellently choreographed fight scenes. P.S. I think I'm in love with Julie Estelle

You could argue this is a remake of 'Headshot'. Same old plot with the same amount of too much story for a story that is barely even there. But, again, a lot of people get killed very hard. However, TNCFU focuses more on gore than on spectacular martial arts. Therefore the movie becomes too cartoonish for its own good. But there are some cool action sequences to be enjoyed.

Blood, bones, sweat and a little girl. The story ends after 20 minutes but that's where the fun begins. Nicely done fighting scenes and shootouts. Nothing more but it's more than enough.

Gruesome fight scenes and some colorful characters make up for the otherwise thin & nonsensical script. However, the same fight scenes became increasingly over the top, overlong & excessively gory. By the end, it became tedious to keep seeing so many guts, blood and broken bones everywhere. Iko was excellent as usual though.

Joe Taslim and Iko Uwais have a final fight with a box cutter and a piece of a wood with a rusty nail, if you're wondering what kind of movie this is.

While this fails to capture the bone crunching heights of the Raid it manages to be a better successor than the actual sequel. The violence and fights get crazier as it goes on and the characters also manage to become more interesting as well. They could definitely make interesting sequels to this in the same vain as the John Wick franchise.

Incredibly gory 2h montage of 20min action scenes, without a second to catch your breath between them. It doesn't help the formulaic but well choreographed fight scenes that you don't know what the characters want or who they even are, it just makes it a chore to watch.

This movie is utterly bonkers. There have been movies ... really great ones like "The Raid" for example ... that are largely exercises in fight choreography. This film takes that and amps the violence and gore up beyond where most people's reasonable tolerance lies. I'm not joking ... this film is more violent than you expect even after I warn you about it. Did I like it? Your damn right I did. There's some truly magnificent fighting in here even if it was hard to watch.

Moreso than even Raid 2, I consider this the true spiritual successor to Raid: Redemption. Incredible action choreography, creative and brutal kills, and a central plot that, yeah we've seen before, but it works so well due to the high nature of the stakes and the journey these characters go through to protect one child from literally hundreds of assassins. Gritty, but still hopeful, can't wait for the sequel!

Hilariously violent. I mean, there’s great choreography and serviceable story as well, but the main thing about this movie is really that they obviously decided they could top the THE RAID-series in terms of splatter, and that they certainly do.

Well, this was goddamn BLOODY. It reminded me why I dread box cutters because those things are damn sharp! Another wonderfully action/blood/gore/drama-filled Indonesian production for me this year in addition to Raid, and I didn't feel sorry watching it. There's so much drama here, but let's be honest, you're just waiting to see all the cool fighting scenes. There are plenty, too, all with increasing levels of detailed gore that makes you go "oh ouch" a lot.
