Let's get past the part where we predict the ending, HBO's Rome isn't worse because we know the ending. Stories are both about the journey and the end. A good ending makes you feel good for a moment, but a good story can stick with you. As far as I'm concerned this is a real love story that is also cliche and overly romantic. Yes it's clearly all about the sentimentality of those who have actually lived, often imperfectly. I watched this 18 years too late and at 1.5x speed. But it's good.
