There was a strange trend in 70s cinema in which the war crimes of the Nazis were brought to the forefront and Hollywood demanded justice. This trend was best exemplified with "The Odessa File", "Marathon Man", "The Boys from Brazil" and, of course, "The Blues Brothers".

Also watched Super 8 version. Jon Voight does a good job. Didn't really get the rest of the intrigue but he acted as though whatever he was doing was serious. Fav scene: guy at the end trying to justify his actions by saying he was following orders and talked about Germany's greatness.

A really good tale, taken from a very good book.

This is what I regard a subtle thriller film. Its ok as a mysterious, dialogue heavy story, the plot pace is alright. The story is quite sobering and sad and the fact that its apparently based on (if but loosely) some facts is certainly food for thought. Its a little bland in the middle but I thought the final scene was quite good, worth the wait. Overall I'd say this is worth a watch, yes.

I really like jon voight in this. He does very well as a man in over his head who is determined not to show it and continue with his mission. Some great tension here and there but not maintained as the film seems to be striving for a grander scale than it can pull off( the extra threat of missiles in particular is unnecessary to the main war criminal hunt). Very good showdown at the end.

A journalist seeks information about Nazi war criminals, and uncovers a conspiracy to protect hundreds of former German SS soldiers evading prosecution. He impersonates an SS soldier in an attempt to infiltrate and expose the group, putting his own life at risk. The plot is sometimes tedious, and most of the action isn't terribly exciting. Loosely based on true events. A few tense moments make the movie worth watching.

Not bad, not great. It kind of meanders its way along to the very predictable ending. Plus it has one of Andrew Lloyd Webber's first movie scores, which means it's overbearing at times and almost always seems out of place.

An exercise in pure tedium. Way too long and plodding. The first half plays like a straightforward procedural, except there's no suspense of course because we already know what happened. The second half seems like it's gonna go somewhere...but all that happens is some guy falls through a skylight. Voight is rather perfunctory throughout. Lame patches of dialogue abound, especially between Voight and his girlfriend and Voight and Max at the end. At least the score had some interesting moments.
