Produced by Hammer, but more reminiscent of one of those goofy live-action Disney flicks from the same period. It's campy, garish and over-the-top, but not at all funny - at least not intentionally so. The "hyena" attack scene will probably make you laugh, but only because of how awful it is.

Well, you may die from this one, but it's probably not gonna be from laughing. Unfortunately someone got the bright idea of turning this remake into a Jerry Lewis production, complete with spates of frequently annoying music. The payoff revelation is at least a bit of fun (though not entirely startling).

i mean i guess im a sucker for william castle is what im realizing. i found it to be just the right amount of goofy to be totally pleasurable. i enjoyed the cast, i enjoyed the idiotic gags and the pacing was great. it's definitely a dumb movie but it still charmed me.

This was one of those movies that started off fun but got too silly for my taste as it went on.

an amusing comedy-thriller/horror that with plot involving family members being killed off one by one has more resemblance to an Agatha Christie "And Then There Were None" style mystery than the 1932 movie of he same name. It passes the time very well even if it isn't extremely funny nor scary.

If you settle into its rhythm it goes from gaudy ugly camp to mildly enjoyable. I went in expecting NOT WHAT I GOT but Castle seemed to be operating on the wavelength of the old Industry folk who frequent the east Hollywood haunts by me and reminisce in bold gestures, aware showmanship, and big-eyed pratfalls. There’s a smell too. If any other Castle film needs a stage revival musical, it’s this one.

William Castle's half hearted retread of the James Whale masterpiece is for Castle nuts only. Some good British tesps, and the always likable Tom Poston, can't really sell it.

Comically absurd.

Goofy, to a fault at times, but this is still classic Castle that has all the trappings for one of his films. The performances are fun, the story is just the right amount of off-kilter, & the mystery- while somewhat predictable- is still entertaining enough. One of the better scripts I've seen for a WC film also. I'm interested to see what I think of the 1932 original having watched this first. On accident, by the way. But hey, it turned out better than I thought it would.

Good enough for a rainy afternoon, but I wouldn't go out of my way to see it.
