Breezy, old-school action film mercifully doesn’t indulge in presumptive franchise "world building"; if the "immortal" conceit gives the screenwriters license to abuse the tiresome "dead? Or not dead?" trope, the well-cast rag-tag superhero team make up for it; Theron gives an extra kick to proceedings, and her relationship with Layne provides the heart of the film. Goes on a little too long, with an agonising coda that would have been better integrated before the action climax.

They take a really cool premise (small band of immortal soldiers fighting their way through the various conflicts throughout history), and turn it into a run of the mill Call of Duty-style shoot em up. Most of the gunplay involves Charlize Theron instantly headshotting anyone who enters her field of view. There's a couple of solid hand to hand fighting scenes, but nothing that hasn't already been done better by other movies. Probably would've been much better as a series rather than a film.

Well choreographed and with enough emotional depth to make the characters more than gimmicks. Overall the movie feels a little bit too much of a setup for further installations. I liked that Big Pharma was the villain of this movie.

Hey, look, it's Dudley! I didn't love "The old guard", but I didn't hate it either. The movie is mediocre, but enjoyable still. I appreciated the history they put, albeit not enough. Would have been better to have more fantasy than action. That said, the action scenes were nicely done. I would see a sequel, although chances are, it will be without Charlize Theron.

A group of immortal soldiers take on an evil pharmaceutical CEO. That's not a startlingly original plot, and this is not a startlingly original action flick. It's perfectly serviceable action film with a good cast and fight sequences that are okay if a tad too jittery and over edited.

Amazingly devoted to representation and social responsibility that comes with heroism and immortality, but unfortunately not so much with myth-making storytelling or personality. Action is ok, it hits all the spots you would expect from a high-budgeted tentpole -- or a "sophisticated" TV episode, like MCU stuff -- but misses the mark at failing to be at least a bit edgy about the very things are at the core of this -- humanity's history as a catalogue of progress through violence.

What if Highlander, but not campy? Interesting concept (immortals, until they're suddenly not, working together), decently but not flawlessly executed. You can tell most of the budget was spent on getting a great cast (I love the characters), and less was left for scenery. Action/fighting is quite above average for a Western film, far above average for a Netflix film. Loved the world-building, hated the forced slow exposition (just tell the new recruit what her life is going to be like already!)

Decent action, and Theron can certainly play a badass - but we already knew that. Too low on emotion and stakes, leaving that tough but important stuff for two surprisingly good scenes that feel out of place in a disjointed plot. Poorly executed.

A lot better than I thought it'd be. The choreography was top notch, as was the concept itself. It's not exactly the best film ever produced by Netflix, but it's easily a fun time.

A sort of neurasthenic 'Highlander', wherein Charlize Theron does a number of impressive things to people's bodies with her freakishly long limbs. Some really quite decent fight choreography, but it's difficult to overlook how the dialogue borders on the (unwittingly) comical and how nobody can take a shit without the film cueing up 'Taking a Shit' feat. Khalid.

A pretty standard action film, despite the premise. I found myself wishing it was structured more like Highlander and we were able to spend more time in the past.
