However appealing may be the idea of being one of the few survivors of an apocalypse, nevertheless this film manages to get almost nothing right.

Charlton Heston is finally typecast as a self-involved gun maniac on a power trip, with a penchant for shooting pseudo-religious hippies! This is the film equivalent of Limburger: you need a peculiarly discerning palate for this kind of stinky cheese. The surfeit of aviators and the terrible score made this crazy-awful-awesome.

charlton heston vs. a never-ending barrage of emperor palpatine stand-ins, all the while romancing some foxy black lady with a 'fro...what's not to like? well, the fact that it's not INTENTIONALLY happy and funny most of the time. while that isn't bad per se, it doesn't fit one bit with what the movie wants to accomplish originally. aw well, you can't really fault the seventies for anything, everyone was on drugs and fucking wildly, it was just a damn happy time.

I am Legend is a classic novel. This is a poor adaptation. Either completely misses the mark or glosses over the most important themes. It still could have been a fine movie despite being a bad adaptation but Charlton Heston is absolutely terrible. Just awful

Easily the worst of the various adaptations of "I Am Legend". Full of 1970's cliche, it really hasn't stood the test of time very well, and Heston is almost unwatchable as the films lead. For the most part this is very poor, and only its concept saves it from complete oblivion!

Not very good at all, the worst of the "I Am Legend" adaptations. I wonder if filmmakers in the 70's knew just how poorly the music would age. Oh and the jive-talking token black character, ugh.

I'd been told this was better than I am Legend's recent adaptation, but this is a lie. I have never heard a more inappropriate and distracting soundtrack...

Great premise. I don't really care for the execution, but there's nothing that offensive about it.

One of the few of Heston's allegorical sci-fi movies that's actually being pulled down by *not* being blatant enough. Sure; it's about a gun-toting renaissance man, protecting his private property from hive-minded-albino-new-age-hippie-vampires, who want to kill "The Man" and destroy his world, but somehow that doesn't feel as guilty pleasurable as it should. Despite it's many flaws the 2007 version is far superior.

Charlton Heston as a lone survivor of the apocalypse? Ah hell, who's he going to gun down and deliver long-winded soliloquies to? Thank God for zombies.

Pretty weak adaptation of I am Legend, complete with Heston's ridiculous motorcycle stunts and overstuffed with Christ-imagery. Historically novel for featuring a fairly early interracial romance between Heston and a black woman.

The second half is pretty good once it becomes a human and philosophical drama, but it's thin and only partially makes up for Heston not being compelling enough to carry the film, especially through the early part of the film.

I wish I could like this. I like the premise, that's about it. I can enjoy cheese but this didn't do it for me, and some of the scenes were just so poorly done. The ending was awful. I wish I could have seen this back in 1971. Usually I can take into consideration that a movie is old and so I don't expect certain things, however, this movie is really dated. A good script is something that doesn't age, and this movie doesn't have it. I could have forgiven a lot had it had that one thing.

Like all the various adaptations of I Am Legend, this is a great premise brought down by mediocre execution. In this case, the main issue seems to be that the infected are incapable of rousing emotions of horror or sympathy.

For it's time, this was a very good movie to make, and an awesome take on Matheson's novel. Over the years, though, it has lost its power.

While it's a poor adaptation of Richard Matheson's "I Am Legend", it's a fairly fun 70s action/sci-fi film that works on its own so long as you're not expecting a faithful adaptation.

Better than I though I would be. The first half is definitely better than the second half where it drags along and the ending is meh. It takes away from the novel's ending and goes over the top with the Jesus Christ allegory. I feel as though the group of survivors is unnecessary. The story would've been best if that group didn't exist or if that group got turned. The whole point isn't that Neville saves humanity it's that he realizes he is the monster in the night or rather daylight

I was a big fan of I Am Legend, minus the terrible cgi, and I was beyond excited to see this movie. Then I saw it and was pretty bored and disappointed with it. It had some good moments, but all together I'd rather watch the new one. And yes, the music didn't fit at all.

Kind of muddled in it's messages, what with religion being presented as evil while presenting Heston as a Christ figure. That said, it's an enjoyable enough little action-horror romp, even if it is the weakest of the "I Am Legend" adaptations.

The "last man on earth" idea have always been an intriguing setup, so why Hollywood keep messing it up by "revealing" that the premise is actually false and more people exist I'll never know. The Omega Man succeeds in setting up an empty world, and then cancels everything out with über-corny villains, a toe-curlingly out-of-place interracial romance playing on nothing but stereotypes, and the refusal of asking any of the many questions this kind of premise is begging for.

A fun but deeply flawed movie with generally poor acting and many completely nonsensical plot points that are not at all internally consistent. Mostly enjoyable but too dumb to even turn your brain off at times. It's a cool world, and it's impressive how they got big shots of empty LA by filming at odd hours and messing with lighting to make it look like day. There are small issues here (a car moving far in the distance, etc.), but it's neat. Could have worked better if it was more self aware

I like the premise a lot (I haven't yet seen I Am Legend's other adaptations), the "family" are great villains (the best villains, for me, are those that a deluded enough to think that they are saviors/heroes), and I dig the aggressive Heston character. The first and last parts (Heston vs. family) are the best, but the middle lags. Also it's pretty dated.

When Heston's alone, the film's golden! All of that is brought to an end when he meets the other survivors.
