I experienced very little-to-no laughter, and I'm usually a fan of Will Ferrell who tries much too hard, as does Mark Wahlberg with a script that doesn't seem to try at all. Talk about flat joke after flat joke, a barrage of noise (including Wahlberg shouting all of his lines and thinking it's funny), and seemingly zero creativity. At the end of the day I was sorely disappointed. Where are these good reviews and box office dollars coming from?! Even 'Cop Out' was better...

This is NOT how you make a movie. If you want good swearing packed action movie, you do not kill S.L.Jackson and give emo role to M. Wahlberg. W.Farrel as nerd/geek just fails. One wanted too much of a movie and made really bad one.

Will Ferrell made the movie to be honest. While it's easily forgettable, most conversations and scenes were funny and on the spot. Not really an achievement by itself, the movie is a solid comedy, at least if you plan to see it once. Too bad that Wahlberg just didn't cut it this time.

Sure the plot was a bit dumb but that's pretty much par for the course of Adam McKay films. However The Other Guys packs enough laughs to make it worth a watch. Samuel L. Jackson and The Rock make an excellent comedic pair, even though their time in the film is pretty short. Mark Wahlberg and Will Ferrell make an unlikely comedic pair Walhberg is tremendously funny and the two work together fantastically. It's a funny, if stupid, no-brainer comedy.

I think movies like Black Dynamite and Kung Fury are fully conceived iterations of the hero cops this movie starts with (Jackson and Johnson). Those movies are awesome because we know the ridiculousness that runs rampant in action films. This alters the viewpoint after the hero cops' demise (which is still the funniest thing I've seen in ten years) and it works for me. Big boy pants with a belt, a rape whistle and Faceback getting terrible reviews are the small moments that keep it worthwhile.

I wish Samuel Jackson had lasted a little longer, but the comedic duo of Markey Mark and Will Ferrell actually held their own and proved to be better than just some "other guys". I def found myself laughing at a good amount of the jokes, although Ferrell did go over the top at points. By the time i left the movie I couldn't wait to go find my TLC Greatest Hits CD.

I made the mistake of seeing this movie AFTER Dinner For Schmucks, and I couldn't help but compare one to the other, and where DFS was clearly the superior comedy, it might hurt the rating. I'm not a Ferrell fan (he has one character that he plays in EVERY movie), but I have to say, he did enough to make me laugh. Luckily, he was COMPLETELY OUTSHONE by Wahlberg. A criticism is that the roles for Jackson and Johnson are markedly brief, and Riggle/Wayans didn't do it for me. Also, fuck Capitalism.

I really liked some of the writing in this film. Several of the jokes were off-the-wall, fresh and just downright funny, leading to an exciting atmosphere where anything could lead off to an amusing tangent. The Adam McKay Will Ferrell teaming works just as well as it did way back in Anchorman. Of course, no comedy can be 100% perfect and there are some dull moments when gags fail or the story drags its feet (the pacing could have been tighter). But I will definitely come back for seconds.

The Other Guys has a respectable efficiency, never missing an opportunity to be wierd-funny, which is what Ferrel is good at. Much less frequently the film is clever-funny or splapstick, but thankfully never gross-funny. The movie gets bonus points for making investment scammers the bad guys instead of drug lords.

A well-accomplished self-conscious take on buddy cop films for the financial crisis era. McKay didn't need those infographics in the closing credits because his point was made throughout the film -- specially the second half --, but this works mostly as an ensemble comedy effort -- Michael Keaton joking about having two jobs to support his bisexual son's career (of DJ and other stuff) represents one of his best lines ever, not to mention that glorious start with Dwayne and Sam.

This movie was way funnier than I expected it to be. I knew that it would have funny parts because Will Ferrell and Adam Mckay are good enough to get some things right at the very least. But I didn't love Step Brothers and the trailers for this weren't exactly great. But the trailers just failed to show how good this movie is. It's hilarious in a silly and ridiculous way but it is never annoyingly silly or ridiculous. It's just fun and awesome.

Anemic comedy has a fair share of potentially funny ideas but consistently struggles to find its rhythm or gather momentum, resulting in a generally laboured, tiresome experience. The film never bests its opening sequences featuring two star cameos, and the cliched obscene talking grandmother is admittedly good for a giggle; Keaton also adds some sparks whenever he is on screen.

I have to agree with critic Jordan Hoffman: this film "has the best Little River Band joke in the history of cinema." Like with other Ferrell/McKay outings, the comedy excels best at its most random and absurd. Unfortunately, the latter half of the movie is mostly filled with a retreading of jokes and action sequences that fail to live up to the incredible SLJ/Rock opening. I'm confounded by the credits, which insist there was a message to be gleaned here about the recent financial meltdown.

A disappointment from McKay. It tries to be an action film and a Will Ferrell comedy at the same time, and trips overs its own cliched-filled, plot-heavy script. I probably responded to this because I'm so familiar with cop movie clichés, but I laughed a lot. I'd probably rate it even higher if the third act wasn't so lame. Like, "OK guys, if you're not gonna be funny anymore just end the movie" lame. Adam McKay really has no sense of pacing. But, whatever, nothing could ruin something like Mark Wahlberg's constant confusion about Ferrell's wife. "I don't think he heard me. Night, Terry!" [beat] "Night, Sheila!"

Before Adam McKay was nominated for Best Director as well as won an Oscar for Best Adapted Screenplay for "The Big Short"(2015) about the 2008 financial crisis he was able to sneak all that into a Will Ferrell and Mark Wahlberg buddy cop comedy 5 years prior. Although Will Ferrell doesn't stray too far from his usual performance, but Mark Wahlberg is surprisingly silly alongside the veteran funny man in his own right. However, Michal Keaton is most memorable as their police captain full of TLC.

I thought the idea of focusing on the "other guys" was rather funny and Ferrell & Wahlberg have a good comic balance. The film is at it's weakest during the action scenes which are too close to your regular action film. You can see McKay's interest about the financial crisis in plot points and especially during the end credits which give you an lecture on the subject. In retrospect it was a natural move to continue with Big Short and Vice which seemed like an unlikely projects for the director.

I admire the way McKay is attempting to integrate social issues that are important to him into his broad, slapsticky comedies, but both here and in The Campaign, the execution could be more cohesive. There are some astoundingly funny gags in this movie, most of them belonging to SLJ & The Rock, but Ferrell is doing something a little different than his usual schtick and Wahlberg is a lot of fun as well. Is it a largely pedestrian "more-of-the-same" comedy? Of course. A few inspired bits however.

Oft-hilarious stuff. I'm particularly partial to the TLC references.

A few really clever jokes make this worth watching all the way to the end.

It's watchable, but way to often conflates yelling for good jokes. That's not to say yelling can't be funny or this movie has no laughs, but if you want a buddy cop comedy that plays with the buddy cop dynamic, just watch a Shane Black movie.
