As a black comedy it certainly has its moments, but overall somehow feels a little empty, even beyond the good Odd Couple-esque performance by Jack Lemmon. Still, the constant barrage of mishaps, blunders and general misfortune still provides enough laughs to keep the film enjoyable throughout. Pretty good.

A love-hate relationship with a city demonstrated by a resident is something of an in-joke and becomes increasingly hysterical and unsympathetic, but there are bright moments in this company.

The Murphy's Law comedy film before such a thing became cliche. Lemmon's character is incredibly frustrating throughout the film, but his antics are balanced nicely by everyone's refusal to play along.

I hate to be late, and watching somebody be almost late for an entire movie....well, I hated it.

Viewed August 28, 2021. Jack Lemmon and Sandy Dennis try to one-up each other’s adenoidal outbursts for 100 minutes and while the script is never particularly funny, there is something enjoyable about the way these two heavyweight actors clash with one another. The fun comes from watching Lemmon dig himself deeper and deeper into trouble. Arthur Hiller, a director synonymous with hackwork, does a nice job of translating the protagonists' total loss of control through his visuals.

A comedy of frustrations with Lemmon and Dennis both delightful as a couple in well over their heads. Don't bother with the lousy remake.

It's not really a comedy in the laughing sense, but the escalatingly absurd tribulations of what must be the most obnoxious man in the world keep you watching. ...despite George Kellerman's nonstop torrent of whining and complaining. I mean, yeah, it's intentional, but it does get a little grating especially with 1970 sound so every yell is a like nails on a chalkboard. Still, despite it all, it was a fun enough ride to warrant the very inconvenient journey.

One of my favorite comedies ever... Jack and Sandy work so great as a couple... Don't know why this movie isn't more famous...

A ridiculously entertaining film where a married couple comes to New York and everything, and I mean everything, goes wrong. I'll admit to not being to impressed during the pre-New York scenes, but once they do the film builds up the hilarity from scene to scene. Jack Lemmon and Sandy Dennis are great as the movies namesake couple, with not much else notable as far as performances. I guess the film is possibly a little to biased against New York and big cities in general, though.

I like it more every time I see it. I think you need to be over 45 to really, really like it.
