More concerned with bug eyes and sunken sockets than any semblance of a film. A lot of silence and stillness is used in an effort to create tension, but it just felt empty and boring.

Not exactly bad, with some nice shots and soundtrack, but it seriously lacks authenticity and a leading personality. Bland, glossy visuals and a forgettable story make it a mediocre affair.

Not worth your time. Jared Leto's character is written so thin, he may as well not exist. There's nothing to grab onto in this movie. It seems like they just put together a bunch of scenes they thought would look cool, and constructed a plot vaguely around that. It just doesn't work for me.

Weak mafia drama echoes much better films, from THE LAST SAMURAI through to an explicit GODFATHER nod but this is the problem - this story has been done before and better; Leto's enigmatic performance (and character) makes it impossible to empathise with his journey as we have no backstory going in, and no effort is made to flesh him out as the film proceeds. Asano gives the best (and most noteworthy) performance in the film - he would have made for a much more interesting central subject!

Inspired by The Godfather, this film never quite hits its mark. Leto is an anti-hero with a tattoo fetish and he ends up losing digits just to belong to a group. There is not much else we learn about him. A good deal of the movie is framing Leto with his bug-eyes and sunken eye sockets. Unlike its inspiration, there isn't enough tension, nor is there enough action or humor. Sets itself up for a sequel.

It's pretty good. It doesn't do a whole lot with the genre but I have a bias towards the Yakuza (they're my favourite mafia). I think the main character should have been someone other than Leto. I wasn't bored and there were a few scenes that I thought were genuinely great.

Klasik netflix işi. Yine güzel fikir kötü film. Godfather ve the last samurai harmanı gibi olmuş. Maalesef referans aldıkları filmlerdeki derinlik hiç yok. Sadece yüzeysel olayları almışlar. Yine de devam filmi çıkarsa izlerim. O kadar gömülecek tarafı da yok.

Seriously UNDERRATED. Freaking loved it! Loved the dark style acting, great costume design and simple story. My fav netflix movie so far. Lot of extreme violence !

Not boring if a two-hour movie takes an hour and a half to end, that is for sure, but besides that nothing, in particular, is happening just him escalating in Yakuza. No Mystery plot at all.

A pretty good slow paced Yakuza-movie.

This could have gone somewhere interesting if they'd let Leto play a pure sociopath who just fell into the Yakuza and went full on psycho. Instead we get another white savior story where the guy who knows only the bare minimum of Japanese language and culture gets to be the best Yakuza there is. His deadly nature and shadowy past doesn't mix well with his love story subplot. Boring, slow and rarely memorable for any good reasons.

Not bad, but nothing special. Kinda cool look at Yakuza, but definitely made for a western audience. Felt a bit too generic, and a bit mediocre. Tbf I watched the masterpiece Harakiri (1962) earlier today, but even so it’s clear very little thought and consideration was put into shot composition and aesthetic. Narrative climax was a bit meh as well tbh. Doesn’t feel like the film had any overarching message or commentary either. Pretty bland overall.

A solid east meets west movie a-la "The Yakuza". Unfortunately, Leto is a very un-compelling and under-explored character. He's quiet and opaque, some might call him subdued, but there's clearly something going on in this guy's head, the movie never really decides quite what it is.
