LIke WTF I don't know what to make of this movie. Its definitely weird with loads of awkward tension, but at the same it's also very straightforward while somehow still being thematically confusing. I mean it's interesting and boring at the same time. I Don't really have a grasp on the acting or directing as I was just trying to figure out the basic nature of this movie the whole time. It took too long to get where it was going, but it also felt short like there was a lot of untapped potential.

It suffers from sort of an identity crisis. It's mostly a crass sex comedy that aspires to be something more thought-provoking and raw. It's sort of like Cassavetes by way of Party Down. Unfortunately, it doesn't go far enough in either direction, and at a scant 80 minutes, it feels like there's so much more that The Overnight could have explored. That being said, there's still a lot here that I really liked.

A weird, awkward, intimate, occasionally hilarious sex comedy -- much like sex itself. The four leads are well cast, even if Adam Scott's "awkward straightman" schtick is growing thin. It clocks in at a perfect 80 minutes, which is good, because I didn't want to spend that much more time with any of the characters (and the sun eventually does have to come up)!

A dull, confusing mess which has nothing that stands out. Feels like it doesn't know whether to be a comedy or drama, feels like a drag watching it. Has at least some (fake) dicks.

Jason Schwartsman stinks it up again, but not as bad as usual. Taylor Schilling was my favorite character, her performance was mostly flawless. Adam Scott was acceptable but on the campy side. The crazy premise was interesting & there were a few good tense, awkward moments to enjoy. But also a few scenes were rather tedious & underwhelming. The ridiculous artwork was stupid. The ending was not particularly convincing or satisfying.

An interesting and tight portrait of relationships, with an admirable point of view. In spite of really intriguing performances, it's ultimately toothless, though worth checking out.

This is one of the most painful movies I've ever watched.

The ending was Funny or Die material. The aesthetic on the whole is too ambiguous and the authorial intentions never become clear. Even the UK Office (the first example of socially awkward humor that came to mind) is clear that we are supposed to pity and laugh at our characters. This hides too much from the audience, seemingly changing its mind about character motivation every other scene. The only discernible theme that's left - "it's tough finding an adult friend." That's not evocative for me

It's billed as a 'sex comedy', and I get the sex part, but comedy? I didn't find it funny at any point, just somewhat awkward. The whole thing felt sort of directionless, like they were making it up as they went. Even the characters didn't seem consistent. The performances weren't bad, but again, it seemed like they were improvising for most of it. It all builds up to something, but despite its short runtime, it takes forever to get there. I didn't hate it, but I didn't like it.

A moderately funny movie that feels incredibly insubstantial. The mumblecore scenes go on for too long, some of its quirks are, well, just quirks, and its twist at the end worked pretty well. And, hey, lots of male nudity, if you're into that sort of thing.

I good little indie flick about relationships, curiosity and what that could mean. A good cast takes on a very interesting subject in a very tasteful manner (though it is a little confrontational). Might not make anyone's "top list" but it's not a waste of time watching it.

Two things...Everything in the world seems to happen in Los Angeles, unless it happens in NYC, according to TV and movies. And of course, we've all been in a situation where we get in way over our heads and we keep telling ourselves it will be OK when it's over. Then we stroke someone else's ginormous member and become better people for it.

This could've been a good episode of Six Feet Under instead of a movie. Despite the 80 minute run time, many scenes run too long and building tension comes across as tedious. The movie ignores building plot in favor of continuing unexpected directions of individual scenes. The humor isn't that funny, the drama isn't that great.

Weird and sort of aimless, but it is at least somewhat interesting. I'm a big fan of Schwartzman in almost everything he does and this is no exception.

For an erotic movie, it's not very erotic, and the occasional jumps into the thriller genre aren't thrilling in the least. Also, the movie isn't funny. I have nothing against paintings of assholes that look like flowers, nor against people with diversely sized and shaped dicks doing pot-induced crazy dances. But the slapstick in this particular movie is just not funny. I have seen much better slapstick in movies like Superbad. This one was really bad.

No redeeming qualities. None of it was funny, none of it was believable, none of the characters were consistent, just plain bad. There comes a time in 2.5 hour movies when you start to wonder how long you have left, but this clocks in at 80 minutes and that feeling sets in at 30. Avoid this.

This is an interesting film. The script is simple, most of the action takes place over 1 night but it works. The 4 leads work well together in this film. Overall I would recommend this film.

Perhaps too much drivel and not enough focus was the problem with The Overnight. Other than that there was a funny poolside dancing scene.

Chock-full of awkward tension, The Overnight is palatable due to the four leads and its perfectly brief running time. The true stars, however, are the prosthetic penises. Bravo.
